Hungry Meem

This game leaves me speechless, in a good way It's super goofy and I have no way to describe it beyond a Colony Sim with a "Katamari"-absurdity to it!

Hungry Meem is a colony simulation game where adorable creatures called Meems are on the brink of extinction after their magical cooking pot shatters. You step in through a storybook, guiding these snack-hungry fluffballs under the World Tree—helping them rebuild, breed, and feast their way back to life. It’s a whacky mix of base-building, breeding, and slice-of-life adventure with a pinch of Chocobo Dungeon exploration. Pros ✔️ Nostalgic charm and creativity – The game somehow manages to pull on a creative esthetic of older games whiel still feeling fresh, new and current. ✔️ Adventure and home-building balance – You send Meems out to explore for resources and feed them grand feasts that literally grow the World Tree — unlocking new zones and upgrades. ✔️ Endless Meem combinations – Meems get stronger, gain skills, and look entirely new every generation. Breeding mechanics mean you’ll discover unique traits and appearances you didn’t even dream of. It's endlessly creative. Cons ❌ Tough to place Meems quickly – I wish I could assign a Meem directly to a spot instead of juggling menus to find them, then select them, then assign them, then find the building. ❌ Food system invi…

Game feels like it is meant for controller only. It looked interesting, but you CANNOT change the scrolling buttons for a keyboard. I found no options for that, only for controllers. The default scroll controls are opposite of every other game I have played like this. That is not a problem, but not giving us the option to swap it is!

Hungry Meem is a strange game. Maybe you could call it a city builder… or maybe not. You see, somewhere out there in the universe, there once lived the so-called Meems. They were very, very hungry. And very greedy. So greedy, in fact, that they eventually ate practically everything on their planet — and starved to death. All but one. The last surviving Meem accidentally finds the final seed of the World Tree (and of course tries to eat it — unsuccessfully). By sheer luck, it manages to grow a small sapling from it. Now it’s your mission to save the world, rebuild Meem civilization, and — this time — make sure they don’t devour everything again. The game is intriguing, filled with dark humor and a unique charm all its own. The only downside is that it feels a bit slow at times. Still, give it a chance — it’s worth it. I'm not quite sure about their comparison to Metroidvania, but it absolutely brings me back to old school PS1/PS2 vibes with games like Monster Rancher, the old school Digimon games or even Creatures/Creatures Raised In Space on PS1. This actually feels like a charming little game i'd play off stream in my spare time as well, it's not very demanding and I can definitely see myself shutting my brain off and just enjoying it for what it is, is there enough to justify a $30 price tag? Time will tell, from all the stuff I see ahead of me I could see that very well be the case but for the time being it has enough Katamari zaney cartoonyness that will bring me back to see how my little Meems are doing.
