About Isle of Swaps

The worldwide phenomenon of Critters has the world in its grip and the newest collectable, the Critter Trading Card Game, has just been released!
Dina is Critter mad and has been begging her parents for a week to get her some cards. Yesterday they relented and have bought her a starter deck and a lovely binder to keep them in but it's not enough, she wants all the Critter Cards.
It's finally lunch time and everyone rushes out to play some more Critter Challenges.
It's Critter Combat! Build up energy with weaker Skill cards and spend it to play stronger cards. With each Critter having varied stats, abilities, Weakness and Resistances, making a varied team is key. You don't want your whole team to be weak to Blaze attacks do you?
But Skill cards can only be used by Critters of the same element, so maybe using multiple Critters of the same type is a good strategy? You wouldn't want your Aqua Critter to be defeated and then not be able to use your Aqua Skill Cards.
Build your deck by swapping with the characters you beat in battle. Got some doubles? Swap as many times as you like and are able, no limits here. Any cards are added to your binder to change up your Battle Deck at any time. Equip Stickers for passive bonuses but be aware that using rarer Critters limits how many Stickers you can use. Balance your deck between Critters, Skills and Stickers to claim victory!

Proceed through Challenges by picking one of 3 map cards but if you're feeling brave, unflipped cards award money that can be used to buy Booster Packs. A victory in a Challenge adds the cards in your battle deck to your permanent Master Binder, letting you customise the starting Critter in future runs. Create decks from the Master Binder to take on the Critter Championship and put your deckbuilding to the test. And the next Challenge run? Totally different. With 6 different areas that can appear in any order, you never know what you'll run into next time.

Game Features

  • A number of artists have illustrated hundreds of cards to collect and store lovingly in your binder
  • A whole bunch of Skill cards and passive ability Stickers to come up with an array of strategies.
  • Swap with characters you beat to build your deck instead of 'pick 1 of 3 cards'. Swap those dupes!
  • Each run is made up from 3 of the 6 Areas and can be played in any order, doing acts in the same order is pretty boring, right?
  • Collect cards between runs in the Master Binder and use Master Decks to take on the toughest fights in the Critter Championship.

This is a game inspired by a single dev's experience of when the pokemon trading card game took over school playgrounds, swapping every breaktime and having illustrated cardboard consume his life.

This is a solid card game buried under terrible UI, insufficient game modes, and bugs. The sense of building/trading for a collection and the trickle back of cards to a master binder between roguelike runs works beautifully. The art and mechanics are excellent. But man, everything outside of the cards. • The game pauses entirely when out of focus. • Can't save an incomplete deck, which leads to a lot of annoying menuing, especially when trading. • Can only trade for up to 5 cards with up to 5 cards at a time. At first I thought this was a limitation on being able to trade, but you can do as many transactions as you want, so... why? • If you turn off manual paying of card costs, it'll sometimes use colored energy before colorless energy to pay generic costs. If you turn it on, it'll force you to pick even when the choice is obvious. • EXTREMELY clunky binder system... you either have to sort through a binder which includes blank spaces for every card you have not collected or you have to Next > through sections of each color. • So many annoying little things like not having shops immediately open in the middle of the screen when you click the node. • Vending machine is slow and has…

Very fun game, interesting combos, various strategies are playable but ... the game is just too easy. I guess developers didn't want the game to be frustrating but basically "lives" are not used at all because at some point you just stop losing. Since you don't loose Nuzzlelock becomes just normal mode without additional challenge. Randomiser challege is just a big joke, since it's easier than default mode, you just take duo monsters and exploit "super effective" bonus. Additionally strategies like spamming AoA, just using energy cards if you get true damage from them are just OP. To speed up every mode (except nuzzle lock) you can just spam "white flag" card. As I said it's too easy but I still played to max everything, so I guess it was worth it.

Maybe I just don't understand this game... But I got to area 2 and the enemies had the same amount of monsters, Their monsters had roughly DOUBLE my HP, and they did roughly DOUBLE my damage per card. On top of that they had constant field healing. What is the player to do in this scenario?

This game is fine. It's not particularly bad, and as you can see from my hours, it's pretty playable and interesting. However, the reason that this game drops to a Not Recommended, is because the UI is horrible: - "Flipping" through your collection feels like it's built for a mobile device. - Once an hour or so the UI bricks and you just can't click anything, requiring an Alt-F4. - Some cards are terribly written and don't make sense until you play a couple of times with them. If there was a "Meh", review rating, I'd give it that, but I can't, and I definitely don't recommend it. It's fine.

Beautiful. BEAUTIFUL. It HAS the SAUCE. It HAS the GAMEPLAY. I accidentally played it for three hours straight because I was having too much fun with it. Everything here feels satisfying, the battle system is both simple enough to learn but has a lot of depth to it as well, collecting cards feels really good, just fantastic all around.
