Kintsugi (2026)

Kintsugi is a compact 2D adventure platformer that takes inspiration from the Japanese practice of repairing broken objects with gold, turning the concept into both a gameplay mechanic and a metaphor for healing a damaged world. Developed by Studiohoho and published by IIM Digital School, it is presented as a short student-made experience rather than a large commercial platformer. Its modest scale is immediately apparent, but the game compensates with a distinctive artistic direction, a thoughtful environmental theme, and a clear sense of identity. The adventure centers on Kyō, a young apothecary living in a world suffering from humanity's greed and mistreatment of nature. A mysterious event begins transforming people with gold, and Kyō finds himself affected by the same phenomenon. His transformation also grants him an unusual power that allows him to manipulate gold and use it to restore damaged parts of his surroundings. This creates an interesting contrast between something initially perceived as an affliction and something that may ultimately become a means of restoration. An absolutely beautiful atmospheric platformer. The art is incredible, the soundtrack is beautiful, and the gameplay is simple, but it just works. It's short, satisfying, and tells a beautiful story without words. (also, I looked up the translation for kintsugi and it's the practice of repairing pottery with powdered gold, which ties everything together with a nice ribbon) 10/10

Beautiful artwork, clean gameplay, and pretty music. Some implication of a plot, but nothing too insane. Overall, a lovely way to spend a small part of an hour, especially at the pricepoint of free!
