Although it may be more suited for mobile devices and quick runs while waiting for a bus or at the doctor, it won’t take much of your time. You start with one character, but four more can be unlocked through frequent gameplay. Except for their appearance, they all behave precisely the same. This is an auto-runner, so there is no need to go into great depth. The main character is at the bottom of the screen and must avoid obstacles by moving left or right, jumping, or rolling. There are only three lanes, so it is not too complicated. However, this does not imply that the game is easy, as speed increases as you progress. The only move you need to learn is “jump cancel”, which is done by pressing roll during a jump. A run continues until you collide with something. There are numerous obstacles, such as cars, street signs, barriers, and more. Environments change and introduce new obstacles, so you do not always sprint down the same street, but there is not much diversity. Along the way, you will gather coins, upgrade points, and powerups that give you temporary abilities like coin magnet and double-jumping. There aren't that many good auto-runners on PC so I would recommend it. You get the typical unlocks from mobile auto-runners but without the need to spend money.

“Do you guys not have phones?” Mobile gaming has grown significantly over the years since the days of Snake but I remain not the target audience. I would have been all in if we had the current technology twenty (20) years ago when I was making an hour and a half train commute into Manhattan. I bet I would have every type of mobile controller from Razer to GameSir to Backbone. I work from home now so if I am idle enough to not be working, I could just turn on my PC or a console. That said, there have been multiple mobile titles that have been successfully ported to consoles including Jetpack Joyride (My Vita says hello!) and Kingdom Rush (my favorite and the best tower defense game series ever). I was always a fan of endless runners because they were simple and the gameplay could be consumed in small bites. One such game was Subway Surfers which had you moving left and right and over and under train cars and other obstacles racking up coins and going for distance. Developed by Kiloo, MetroLand is the spiritual successor to the aforementioned Subway Surfers. Fun little auto runner. Lots of replay value here. Lots of upgrades, tools and characters to mess around with. I'm surprised with how little attention this game has on steam. For sure a hidden gem title that is easy to lose tons of time in. Strong recommend for anyone who loves auto runners!

For a $5 Subway Surfer alternative. It's Good. Easy to learn, hard to master. Jump! Roll! Raw coinage! Beefing up the cast for bigger tallies. The art, screems "Subway Surfer." Leaderboard could use some work.
