Midnight Evil is basically a gimmick game that revolves entirely around a simple mechanic... you're a kid stuck in bed reading a book, which has caused various gremlin things to enter your room and try to jumpscare you. The only way to hold them at bay is to plug in a mic to your PC and read the book aloud. One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience. Thankfully the developer added a no-mic option to the game so you don't actually have to play the game as it was intended... this is both a good thing and a problem. It's great the developer made the game accessible to anyone and gives gamers the agency to experience the game they want to (that's a minimum requirement, really). The problem is that, well, it highlights how so much of the game revolves around a novel, but shallow premise of limited lasting value to gamers. My grandmother would have called this a "one minute wonder". The game is very si…3 found this helpful
I one of those players that likes full completion. I don't mind when there is a painful part in the game and will play for hours to get an achievement. The mole game.... The score seems random. One run i get 43 of them and get 4300 points no misses. The next i get 43 of them and get 300 points no misses. I don't know if its bugged or the Dev doesn't know but if there is something i'm missing it would be nice to know. Maybe i'm not supposed to hit a certain color etc. If so, simple rules would make this way more enjoyable. I'm extremely frustrated because the reading part is fantastic but that's not all the game offers, and i would like to complete the rest.2 found this helpful
A great homage to horror fantasy classics like Leprechaun and Troll 2. Reading the story aloud is a engaging mechanic and I didn't run into any problems with my voice being detected. I also quite enjoy the atmosphere and the story though simply was still fun in a dark sorta way.1 found this helpful
