About Mud and Blood
The cult classic flash game is back with its own new engine, an evolved AI and a ton of new features.
Mud and Blood was, for the most part, created in an unlikely place: an outpost somewhere between Kandahar and Panjway, Afghanistan. Initially developed as a flash game by urb in between missions on a beat-up laptop, it became a way to decompress from the chaos. Ironically, a game about brutal, unforgiving war was itself forged in the heart of a conflict. What began as a personal project has since evolved into a cult classic, beloved by a fiercely loyal community for over 16 years.
At its core, Mud and Blood embraces a unique philosophy: challenge, not comfort. The gameplay is punishingly difficult, but it respects your tactical sense and cognitive ability. It doesn’t drip-feed you success to keep you engaged. Every decision matters, every mistake is costly, and every victory is hard-earned. This is a game that trusts its players to make tough calls on the fly, think critically, and persevere through chaos and loss.
In Mud and Blood, war is not heroic. It’s messy, unpredictable, and brutal. Yet amidst the carnage, there’s a raw beauty in the stories that emerge—a narrative forged by the player, much like the Dwarf Fortress of combat. Your experience becomes your own war story: a tale of triumph against an unrelenting enemy and the quiet pride of knowing you gave it everything you had.
Crafted with love, a touch of PTSD, and a deep respect for its community, Mud and Blood is a humble tribute to those who dare to face the impossible.

I have played the game for over a decade across its various flash platforms and I hate to say it, but save your money and play it on Kongerate for free. The campaign is hard, in a game breaking way, and takes away half of the fun of the game which is building defenses to give your guys a second to heal up, build the anti-air gun to chop the infantry and defend from air, and the ability to get some heavy machinery like machine gun or tanks if needed. Also, I charged the beach 7 times, and because the map doesn't ever reset after your squad is wiped and you restart, you face an even larger force of enemies the next time with even weaker troops. And you can't reset the run. At all. I just finished my eigth attempt and by the time I assaulted the bunker I realized there were probably close to 50 enemies in the bunker and I only have 6 recruits. The "campaign" is broken and doesn't feel in the spirit of the original game at all. Classic is ok, but overall the game feels like a knock off of the OG. Only real bonus is full screen.4 found this helpful
can you add where i can just quit to the main menu and not the full game3 found this helpful
honestly one of my favourite games right now, the only issue is I think the developer is probably overwhelmed and not putting out alot of updates. But the game itself is great I have run into a couple of issues where if you only have one guy sometimes he gets infinitely pinned down by enemy fire and they wont kill him (but if you go take a crap and come back his final stand is usually over) or where french troops say american voice lines but i mean theres alot more going on with this game than the graphics show. 9/101 found this helpful
good game from my childhood, might need some updates for classic. I wouldn't mind if the troops did things that related to their jobs similar to the campaign in classic mode, since that's my favorite game mode.
First and foremost, I love Mud and Blood, I spent countless hours when I was younger playing Mud and Blood 2. I was never any good at it. Hated the stupidity of a lot ways I'd lose troops... but that was the beauty of it. This game is different but offers so much more, special modes, a campaign, ribbons and skills to make it improve your squad beyond gear... it's great. Now a petty complaint, but cannot even really blame the developers. It's entirely my fault... One of the things I did when I was younger, I loved using the "hacked" version. Unlimited points to buy everything I wanted, and build my perfect setup. I never really went overkill, 2 tanks maybe, a perfect squad of 8. I always lagged heavily, my generic HP laptop could not handle it for whatever reason... I thought back to it, and went "I should be able to run this easily now" well... same issue as a decade before. Even just calling in a single stuart tank and building a trench made the game lag unbearably. Not sure why this occurs, if the game is just that outdated, or if the game detects that I shouldn't have been able to buy said unit, upgrade, whatever... but it is disappointing to me at least. All in all, the games…
After completing the campaign once, I will say the games is vastly different from your typical titles. Like the dev said the games heavily rely on tactics and manuverability, the smart and a bit "quirky" AI makes full use of the map, your mistakes to punish you deeply. The unfairness is definitely in there, it's not for the faint of heart and show the other aspect of an actual war. Where decisions and squad movements matter, not some guy "one man army"-ing the war. Overall a great game, the unfairness, the AI and the whole game itself is a masterpiece. (Also a great anger management game for those who rage quits alot)
