About Our Ascent
Our Ascent is an incremental roguelite RPG with many layers of metaprogression. The game is currently in the Alpha Testing phase!
The main gameplay loop is similar to that of a traditional RPG. Level up, upgrade your stats, buy equipment, etc. Where this game differs is through the incremental roguelite mechanics. You can only fight a certain number of enemies before the run ends, and once a run ends your levels and stats get reset. In exchange, you keep your equipment and powerful buffs which let you explore much further than before.
With silly dialogue and nearly guaranteed progress, this is a simple, casual game. But for those who want to reach the limit of what is possible, you are heavily rewarded for min-maxing your stat allocation, pathing to find the optimal routes, and choosing the best equipment for the current situation.

It feels like a game that doesn't know what it wants to be. It draws inspiration from a lot, but fails to weave it together well. Is it an incremental/RPG? You can grind... but only as much as the developer feels is appropriate for any given zone. Your xp boost has a hardcap, and realistically there's only so much SP you can acquire in a zone based on options provided. Is it a roguelike? Gameplay is played in runs with (most) things resetting between them, taking the same routes over and over, yet there is effectively no randomization present beyond encounter rate and in-combat hit/crit/combo chance. Is it a real-time skill-based game? A decent portion of routes is you maneuvering your character around a bunch of arbitrary obstacles on the map, on a map that shifts around between characters, yet it is not actually challenging, just awkward, yet still necessary. Is it a puzzle game? Realistically the only way to progress in reasonable amounts of time is to plan routes and builds due to limited meta-progression, and to optimize as much as possible, but solving the puzzle does not inherently mean your route will succeed due to the aforementioned randomization, plus having to execu…2 found this helpful

Well made game! Great Inflation RPG vibes!
fun
Found this after seeing it on itch.io. What a great game! You start at level 1 with zero gold each time, and make your way through different paths marked with the levels of the enemies in them. Every level you get to distribute the stats you gain. Gold is used to buy gear which is a permanent unlock. You have another character that has different gear and stat emphasis as well. When both of you beat a boss, both characters get an extra point for talents. The game loop is simple yet satisfying. High recommend if you like this style of game.
