The game is nice to practice the phonetics alphabet, but the system used is confusing and it's uncertain whether it's the American, British, Canadian or Australian English pronunciation. However, the "shwa" (ə) symbol is used for every unstressed vowel sound, even when the "upside down v" (ʌ) would be more appropriate (for example, "bus" and "cut", which use the "ʌ" normally, would be shown in the game using the "ə", which isn't an accurate pronunciation of the words). It would also be nice to have another option on the main menu for "training", which would offer exercises to learn the phonetic alphabet and the various diacritics used in the actual game. Apart from that, it's a nice game and can be helpful linguistics students when learning the English generic phonetic sounds.

"Phonetic" is a poorly made browser tier quiz game where you're given a barely readable phonetic spelling of a word and have to guess what the word is. It's a great business model to try compete with the back of a newspaper. Anyway this is just text and menus, no attempt was made to make this even resemble a PC game, it's a glorified webpage. It's functionally no different from a browser game. And we all know, Steam isn't here to compete with Chrome and Firefox. If the game can be done in a web browser, it's just not rich or compelling enough to appeal to serious gamers on PC. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after yo…

This game is a fun way to learn how to sight-read the phonetic alphabet.
