About Preface: Undiscovered World
Preface: Undiscovered World - A Tech Demo from PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions
Explore a World in the MakingPreface is an immersive tech demo showcasing Melba, PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions' groundbreaking technology generating an Earth-scale world. In this project still in development, experience our Machine Learning agents creating a dynamic planet in real-time, all processed directly on your GPU - with no reliance on cloud services. A Development JourneyJoin us on a journey into the future of world-building. Preface gives you the opportunity to explore a vast Earth-scale world spanning 510 million km² (200 million square miles) and be among the first to witness this new technology, as it takes shape. As we continue to build and refine Melba, your experiences and feedback will play a crucial role. Your Feedback, Our Path ForwardWe believe in community-driven development. That's why we invite you to join us on Discord, where you can engage directly with our dev team, share ideas, provide feedback, and stay informed on the latest updates. Preface is a tech demo - not a finished product. We’re in an ongoing development phase, so check back regularly to see new features and enhancements as we continue to push the boundaries of ML-driven world generation. What Steam players say

People need to keep in mind that this is an early access tech demo. Expect significant performance issues, bugs, and crashes. There may not be any actual gameplay, but it is kinda cool seeing a world be generated with realistic biomes and foliage. Games need time to improve, someday this tech demo will become a good game (if not their other game Prologue: Go wayback!)6 found this helpful

It's a software application. "Preface: Undiscovered World" lacks the basic mechanics that make something a game. Lacking that, this is just an application that abuses Steam's "games" section so the developers can publish an AI slop generator which they intend to charge money for. It's not a game. It just procedurally generates a planet that looks bad because it's disgusting AI slop. To clarify why this isn't a game in more precise terms, a "game loop" is the core cycle of interaction and feedback between a player and the game itself. Here's an example of a game loop. In Dark Souls, you explore an area, encounter an enemy, fight that enemy and if the computer lets you survive, you repeat that loop with the computer providing you with new enemies. Another example is Candy Crush (while mobile games are awful, they are still games where this isn't), where you rearrange your gems and if you create a match, they're eliminated, you get rewarded, and then the…4 found this helpful
This is a procedural environment walking simulator. All you have to, just run and run. It's a way too limited when it comes to explore. Maybe because it's in demo!4 found this helpful

What is this? There is no variation to anything, just slightly different colors.
Its gotten better over the year
