Smackitball takes a straightforward sports concept and adapts it to virtual reality with an emphasis on physical movement, timing, and the simple satisfaction of striking a ball with a virtual racket. Instead of closely reproducing an existing sport such as tennis or badminton, it presents a futuristic racket-based activity built specifically around VR motion controls. The game was developed by Kevin Fathi, Nima Zeighami, Benjamin Marx, Evie Powell, Kijoon Shin, Victor Brodin, Benjamin Niu, and Jason Briggs, with VR Sports handling publishing duties. Its concept remains appealing, although the limited state of the overall package prevents it from reaching the potential suggested by its basic mechanics. "Smackitball" is an abandoned Early Access VR tech demo, just a basic racketball kind of game where you wave your arm around to pretend to hit a ball with a racket. Truly the future of gaming, what a time to be a live. The developers abandoned this 7 years and 10 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuinely, completely made games. This features fairly low quality low poly/neon 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else.
