✦ AI summary

Players are divided on this VR wave shooter, with some appreciating its straightforward arcade gameplay and atmospheric intro, while others criticize it heavily for lacking basic PC features like graphics settings and resolution options, relying on cheap asset-store models, and feeling like an incomplete, low-effort product. The game's simplicity is viewed positively by some as fitting its arcade nature, but negatively by others who see it as lazy design, and technical issues combined with limited controller functionality and no save system further diminish the experience for most players.

Spirit Guide Crucible is a VR exclusivce low poly wave survival first person shooter. Gameplay consists of sitting in an asset flip looking arena fighting waves of asset flip looking monsters that seem to be ripped right off the Unreal marketplace. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the mid 2000s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, b…

Pros: the game has a nice intro level with relaxing harp music and an ominous heavy breathing sound from one of the monsters. So it had an impact on me straight away! The gameplay itself is lively if a tad simplistic (it is certainly an "arcade" game). Graphics are good and I felt no sickness playing it through the Rift. Cons: though you can play it with the Touch controllers there is a limit to what you can do (for example you cannot pick up weapons or throw objects). And there is no save game option, though given the arcade nature of the game this may be acceptable. Overall a decent VR game for the money.
