The Forest Prison attempts to deliver a distinct, concept-driven puzzle environment by shifting traditional first-person platformer mechanics into a dystopian sci-fi prison setting. Rather than relying on high-fidelity visual presentation, the title introduces a subversively rigid layout that tasks the user with navigating eighteen fragmented chambers using a strict suite of localized portal-opening tools and physics-based environmental assets.From a design standpoint, the core mechanical loop functions strictly through programmatic spatial navigation and trial-and-error progression. By forcing players to systematically coordinate pre-defined spatial portals, deploy mobile teleportation capsules, and manually position boulders to operate heavy pressure plates, the gameplay attempts to generate instant tactical gratification. However, community metrics highlight severe structural friction, primarily driven by a lack of operational polish, unrefined hitboxes that cause players to easily get stuck in geometry, and a completely unfinished user interface. The Forest Prison is a pretty interesting little first person puzzle game, and I liked how quickly it throws me into a situation where I have to figure things out for myself. I play as James Webb, a prisoner sent to a mysterious facility where escape depends on surviving a series of strange tests. The combination of a futuristic prison and environmental puzzles gives the game a nice sense of mystery right from the start. The main gameplay revolves around using a small selection of tools to move through the prison. I can create portals between specific locations, use a portal capsule to connect different points and pick up boulders to activate doors or manipulate the environment. I enjoyed this because the tools are simple individually, but combining them can lead to some surprisingly satisfying solutions. The puzzle design is easily my favorite part. There are often several ways I can approach a section, so I am encouraged to experiment rather than simply follow one obvious solution. I liked having to think about where I could place a portal and how I could use the environment to my advantage. There is no optimization, the physics are not well-developed, and the graphics and menus look ugly.
