The Struggle of Combat

The Struggle of Combat, developed and published by Yrbiax, is an indie action roguelite that revolves around relentless side-scrolling combat and procedurally generated adventures. The premise is straightforward yet effective: a mysterious attack on a high-security prison has allowed numerous dangerous criminals to escape, and it falls to the player to track them down while uncovering the truth behind the incident. Although the narrative is relatively simple, it provides enough motivation to propel players through a series of increasingly hazardous missions where survival depends on quick thinking, sharp reflexes, and the ability to adapt to constantly changing situations. The game's greatest strength lies in its replayability. Rather than presenting fixed levels, every run is procedurally generated, ensuring that no two attempts play out exactly the same. Enemy placements, encounters, and opportunities shift from one session to another, encouraging players to learn the mechanics instead of memorizing layouts. The Struggle of Combat is a charming 2D Roguelike with randomly generated levels, a bunch of characters to unlock, and can be finished in one sitting. Each of the characters has their own special ability, but there's not much that really sets them apart from any of the others. Unlocking them can be a bit difficult due to the requirements often being a successful defeat of a boss without any deaths. There are a lot of weapons, but I unlocked only a handful in an hour of play. The reload time for weapons is horrendous, and even with getting upgrades that lower the reload time it felt far too much. Aside from that I overall had fun with it and think if you like roguelikes and want a fairly simple experience this would be worth picking up.

It's fun. Kind of brings me back to the Newgrounds or Miniclip days, with it's simple art style. It has multiple playable characters, though it seems (though potentially I'm missing some mechanics) that the difference is their abilities, and the guns they get are universal, and drop randomly from enemies. The weapons have different levels too, so you're incentivized to swap weapons occasionally (though I still had my preferences). If you enjoy action sidescrolling rogues, then I'm sure you'll find something here enjoyable. It's fairly priced as well, and obviously can run on practically anything. I'd say check it out, it's not going to blow your mind but it's challenging and engaging enough to be a fun little game, and once again, for the price you don't have a lot to lose.

Amazing roguelite! I was scared at first because the graphics seemed a little cheap. This game exceeded my expectations! The combat is smooth and fun. The weapon variety is exceptional and the monsters are unique. The difficulty increased at a fair rate. All in all, the game was fun to play! Can't wait to play some more and try to beat it
