Tropicalypse

The game is free to play and in early development. I normally give a lot of grace with these two points in mind. But currently this game needs a bit of work. It drops you onto the map with no objectives, no gear, and a hoard of zombies. You the player have no idea where to go and are basically just running around on a randomly generated island. The concept is very good, and the graphics are decent. I am excited to see where this game goes, but It needs a lot of polishing to be playable to the general public. Maybe a more in depth tutorial, and providing some sort of direction when the player first spawns on the island.

Tropicalypse is an ambitious zombie shooter that immediately caught my attention because of its tropical setting and first person and third person perspective switching. I liked the idea of fighting through a colorful island full of undead enemies because it gives the usual zombie survival formula a more unusual backdrop. Even in its current Early Access state, there is enough here to show what the game is aiming for. The shooting is straightforward, with the main focus on surviving hordes of zombies while exploring the island. I enjoyed having the freedom to switch perspectives because each view gives the combat a slightly different feel. The action becomes especially frantic when several enemies close in at once, and staying mobile is important if I do not want to get surrounded. The cooperative side is where I think the concept has the most potential. Working together means I have to think about positioning, scavenging and how to handle groups of enemies rather than simply worrying about myself. The procedural story and evolving quests are also a nice idea because decisions can influence how the adventure develops. I like the possibility of each run feeling a little different …

Really fun survival game. The island setting is refreshing.

I kept getting distracted from my original objective because I’d spot another place worth exploring. Before I knew it, I had spent far more time wandering the island than I planned.
