An Xbox gift card can cost 13.1% less than the money on it

Measured 2026-09-25 across every Xbox gift card we track that is redeemable in the United States. By playze.io.

We price 55 Xbox gift cards across the key resellers we track. Of the 43 US-redeemable ones carrying a dollar denomination, 21 cost less than the credit they load and 22 cost more — a median of +0.2% against face value. The best we found is $10 of Xbox credit for $8.69, 13.1% below face.

That is the opposite of Steam, where wallet credit costs a median 12.5% more than it is worth (our Steam gift card study). Credit for the Microsoft Store and Xbox is one of the few things a key reseller reliably sells below the official price — if you pick the right denomination.

Before you buy one

Match the card to your account's country. Xbox credit is tied to the store region of the account that redeems it. Cards sold for another country are often cheaper for exactly that reason, and a US account cannot use them. We only list cards that name the United States or no country at all.

Check the price at checkout. The prices here are before any payment-method fee a reseller adds, so on a small card a fee can erase the saving. The bigger the denomination, the more a few percent is worth.

Xbox gift cards — questions & answers

Can you buy an Xbox gift card below face value?

Yes. Of the 43 US-redeemable Xbox cards we could price on 2026-09-25, 21 cost less than the credit they load. The best we found was $10 of credit for $8.69, 13.1% below face. Most listings still cost more than face value, so compare before buying.

Why are some Xbox gift cards so much cheaper?

Often because they are for another country's store. A card sold for a different market is priced off that market and cannot be redeemed on a US account. Every card on this page is filtered to ones that name the United States or no country at all.

Is an Xbox gift card better value than a Steam gift card?

Measured against face value, yes. Steam wallet codes cost a median 12.5% above the credit they load; Xbox cards cost a median +0.2%, and at every common denomination the cheapest listing is below face.

Method

Every Xbox listing in our US catalogue on 2026-09-25, priced in US dollars. Face value is parsed from the denomination in the listing title; a card counts only when it names the United States or no market at all. Listings priced more than 30% below their stated face value are dropped as mislabelled products rather than counted as deals. That leaves 43 cards with a comparable face value.
