Ashes of the Damned: The Forgotten Ward

If you like to walk around aimlessly in a very empty feeling map of just finding random files and doing nothing else (same asylum map from demonologist) with random one off encounters with cheap full screen jumpscares that arent even scary. You'll probably like this. I tried it out and walked around each room of the asylum. You look for patient files to find out the story of what happened. You dont avoid monsters like the store page makes it out to belive. Intact, you purposely get killed instantly by the monster after finding the file to be teleported back to where you started but there is a book with multiple pages telling you the story of what happened to the patient that you just discovered. And you cant progess until you've heard the narrator tell the whole story of like 10 pages of story. I quit the game bored after discovering the second monster and having to sit and listen to the multi page story (my twitch chat even said it was depressing). The only fear is if you're scaring yourself thinking the worst while walking around an empty asylum.

Ashes of the Damned: The Forgotten Ward delivers a creepy, oppressive atmosphere with a disturbing abandoned-hospital setting that keeps you uneasy throughout. Ashes of the Damned: The Forgotten Ward is a first-person psychological horror game where you explore an abandoned psychiatric ward, uncover patient files, solve puzzles, and use Spirit Vision to reveal hidden clues while trying to figure out your connection to the building. Pros ✔️ Some of the environmental details look good - I specifically stopped to appreciate things like the cobweb work. There are lil pieces of the environment where you can see some care went into them. ✔️ It does indeed run - That is admittedly a VERY low bar, but I tried to come up with positives while playing and this was one of them. ✔️ Spirit Vision is a neat idea - Finding the glasses and using them to reveal hidden clues gives the exploration a little more to do than just wandering around and reading files. Cons ❌ The optimization is horrible - It was using way more of my computer than I expected for what was actually happening on screen, without the visuals or performance really justifying it. ❌ The horror did absolutely nothing for me - The jump scares were pathetic at best, and I spent most of the game wandering around wondering when I was actually supposed to be scared.
