A New Beginning - Final Cut

Decided to drink and watch Nonpoint youtube videos over playing this. Wasn't worth my time.

A very messy and buggy game. Puzzles that break. Had a sequence where you needed to re-do a certain puzzle, triggering a cut-scene for a second time before the game allowed you to progress. Subtitles that are missing or don't make sense. Voice acting that doesn't understand the dialogue. I would go for several other daedalic games before this one. It feels lazy, and barely quality checked.

Really enjoyed this old style point and click adventure. Female protagonist had to be dressed in sexy outfit? Good puzzles, great storyline about people coming from the future to stop the global warming that has destroyed the planet for them. Excellent gameplay: space bar shows hot points, you can't do things you aren't supposed to do. No dying or fighting. Over twelve hours of play, and only had to check walkthroughs for help a few times.

I love Point and Click games, but this one doesn't work for me. Sometimes it felt like random clicking and neither characters nor story were engaging. After trying on three different occassions, I finally gave up. Not for me.

I played about 2 of the 8 chapters 12 years ago, and for some reason stopped. I somehow remembered this game whilst browsing my library, and noticed that it had been left unfinished - so I restarted it. I think what ultimately drove me to do this was a screenshot from the prologue of the game, from a cabin by a forest somewhere in the Norwegian wilderness. This is, well, a environmentalist sci-fi story that involves a climate disaster, and a time-travelling adventure to the 80s in order to prevent said disaster from happening. It's a nice enough premise that unfolds at times more convincingly than at other times, and without overtly lecturing you about environmentalist agendas. It does repeat certain things a tad much, but otherwise jokes around and pokes fun at both sides, so it certainly doesn't become obnoxious. There are some questionable character development decisions at times, whereas both Dr Svensson and Fay, the two playable protagonists, are decent enough. Fay both showcases the most potential as a character, but in the same time is the more inconsistent of the two - as a girl from the future, she treats most things that she encounters in the past as normal and mundane.…

An intriguing eco-thriller with a story ahead of its time and chillingly relevant today (despite its German 2010s anti-nuclear propaganda). It borders on greatness, but undercooked cutscenes, minor bugs, and a few atrocious logic puzzles drag it down to only fine.
