Trigon: Space Story

I love FTL. I love all kinds of space style games like this. This is basically an Unfair FTL. Starting out, the learning curve is a bit high. I learned how EMP can really heck your ship up, especially if it's a boss that has two of them. (Literally permanently stunned my shields and weapons, and I had to wait 10 minutes to just die because you cannot fix EMP...) I beat a run out of sheer luck, and unlocked chapter 2. I reached the final boss of chapter 2 no problem, enemies weren't a problem ever in that run, except when a pulsar kind of hecked me up... But then the boss happened. I died in 3 seconds, because most of its weapons bypassed shields, and I only got one barrage off. I took more hull damage than max hull I had in only two barrages from the enemy. They put a shield bypassing boss at the end of the shield-based ship's chapter. I think the developers might of been sadistic or something, thinking "It's a roguelike, if they just slam their heads against it and RNG lines up, they'll have fun, right?" FTL lets you plan things, and set up builds. This game's balancing is very whack. And I don't even KNOW how to unlock new ships, just new factions when I finish chapters; that …

tl;dr: If you liked FTL and want more and shinier, go for this one. If you didn't like FTL, you won't like this either. If you haven't played FTL, go do that one first - it's better, and it's the original. This game is basically FTL But With Fancier Graphics, but FTL's great, and fancier graphics are great, and it's different enough that even if you've played FTL to death, there will be new stuff here for you. The music's good, even if it's no Ben Prunty soundtrack, and the writing is... well, not that great, actually, but you can't have everything. A lot of the reviews complain about difficulty; I'd say that the game is difficult, yeah, but not unfairly so. FTL vets certainly won't be thrown by the difficulty curve, and if you're not an FTL vet, you should go play FTL first anyway. Other than that, keep an eye on your bounty level and don't forget to upgrade your ship, and things shouldn't go vertical on you too suddenly and unexpectedly. Or you can always just crank the difficulty level down to "easy."

It's a poor knockoff of FTL: Faster Than Light that's trying too hard to look prettier at the cost of readability and playability. The UI is cramped and unreadable, making this game, which is about reading and reacting to the UI, unplayable. if you have poor eyesight, dyslexia, colorblindness, or any combination of those or other visual difficulties, this game will be nearly unplayable. Not worth $5, let alone $20. If this looks interesting to you, please go play FTL. It's just better.

If you like FTL, you'll like this, however this seems like it's got a much harder difficulty curve. I have trouble making it out of the first sector.

Pretty fun game. Not to difficult to learn.

FTL if 3D, lore is ass. In general not really worth it.
