Fate of the World: Tipping Point

NOTE: Only "playable" with the Unofficial Patch mod While this is an older game clearly meant as propaganda in favor of extreme environmentalism, I find myself liking it. It has a certain uniqueness to it. There's really no other game like it more than 15 years after release.

I picked it up on sale, but even then, I wouldnt recommend this game to others. Mostly because its so disappointing. It has interesting systems underneath. You have to battle through a bad UI to get there, but there are a lot of statistics behind the hood that all affect each other. They would be amazing to watch in a better game. Its so disappointing in fact, that it made me write my first ever review. Now, I dont have hundreds of hours here, so I dont claim to be an expert. But there very much seems to be a "correct" way to play the game. You have to make the same moves, at the same turn, in each playthrough to achieve success. Even if you ignore the preachiness of it, that's not a strategy game. That's a puzzle game. There is slight variety here and there, in what exactly you prioritize depending on random events, but you do the same moves each time. The second issue is the card system. Now its not bad on its own, but it seems weirdly balanced. First of all, it's very inflexible. If I have 49 bucks left at the end of turn, and the campaign to encourage renewable energy costs 50, I cant buy it. I mean I get it from a board game perspective, but can I really not just make a slig…

It was pretty poor at the time, but gets more ridiculous as time goes on. Fortunately the developer never made anything else.

One of the most boring games I've ever played.

Barely a game, "Fate of the World" plays more like a simulation. It rewards adapting your strategy to the specific need of each region and is therefore a very informative, decision-rich game. Would recommend to any players who enjoy resource management or want to learn about Climate Change and the politics/technologies/nuances behind it. Truly relevant to today's world (eventhough it was created in 2011 and some things feel a little outdated - it won't stop you from enjoying the game though).

Utopian but it does give me hope and inspiration for the real world. Fun to play and work on improving each new campaign.
