About Salammbô: Battle for Carthage

It's the 3rd century BC, despite being supported by thousands of mercenaries, Carthage has just been overrun by its sworn enemy, the Romans, during the first Punic War. In the midst of the killing, Salammbo, the daughter of the commander of the Carthaginian forces, falls in love with the leader of the mercenaries, Matho, who is laying siege to the city as he demands payment for his services.

Inspired by the novel of Gustave Flaubert and the works of Phillippe Druillet, Salammbo: Battle for Carthage puts you in the middle of two of antiquities greatest powers. Can you deliver Salammbo's message before it's too late?
  • Whether crossing gardens full of poisonous fumes or unleashing hell on Mount Solitude, the world of Salammbo is a dark one
  • Get immersed in the 360° panorama of the dark and dangerous world of Salammbo, accompanied by the powerful score from Dvorak's epic "New World Symphony"
  • A series of 3D frescoes forms a unique player's journal summarizing the adventures and providing a new insight into ancient History

✦ AI summary

Salammbô: Battle for Carthage is praised by fans for its unique artistic style, atmospheric world-building, engaging story of political intrigue, and clever puzzles that create an immersive dark experience despite its 2002 age. However, players frequently complain about dated graphics, technical compatibility issues, and particularly poor navigation systems that make orientation tedious and frustrating, with some feeling the game needs map improvements and updates to remain playable.

Salammbo: Battle for Carthage is a 2002 game based on a historical Mercenary War and a book telling this story. Our main character Spendius for example is an actual historical figure with a very different outcome. Game is VERY old and VERY dated in terms of graphics. Have some technical problems. This is a point and click adventure game which you look around 360 and interect with objects and try to solve puzzles and progress the story. ++Setting: It has a strange and different art design and added fantasy fiction to a real event. The narrator adds quite a bit to the story. And you really want to know how events are going to unfold because it involves lots of duplicity, betreyal and war. +Gameplay : It's a point and click and have minimal dialog options, however, on critical events and on your deaths a narrator tells your story. You can die in quite a lot ways but because of this feature discovering them didn't felt bad. I liked this :D. On these moments also a comic like panels are shown which is quite original in my opinon. There are some battles, resolves according to your choices and are again told by narrator, These are fine. Other than that its simple adventure. -Tech…

Salammbô: Battle for Carthage, developed by Cryo Interactive and published by Microids, stands as a distinctive entry in the early 2000s adventure genre, drawing heavily from historical inspiration while embracing a bold, almost surreal artistic direction. Loosely based on the world of Gustave Flaubert’s work and visually influenced by the striking style of Philippe Druillet, the game transports players to a version of ancient Carthage that feels less like a strict historical recreation and more like a vivid, dreamlike interpretation of the era. You step into the role of Spendius, a slave navigating a city on the brink of collapse after the First Punic War, and what begins as a simple task gradually unfolds into a much larger journey through political intrigue, conflict, and survival. The gameplay follows a traditional first-person, point-and-click format that will feel familiar to fans of classic adventure titles. Movement is handled through static, pre-rendered environments, where players explore, interact with objects, and solve puzzles to progress. The pacing is deliberate, encouraging careful observation and methodical thinking rather than quick reactions. Puzzles range from …
