DROP - System Breach

As I mention in all my hacking game reviews, I love the genre and play all the game. DROP - System Breach is probably the best set of hacking mechanics I've seen in a decade, yet, it manages to drop the ball on the meta around it. While there's a lot I love here, my enjoyment has been on a steady decline since the start... and I can't really recommend it as is. As I said, the core mechanics are clever, stylish and functional. Think of it as Diner Dash with a coat of paint... you walk around a node-based maze and activating each node just takes a period of time or a minigame. The entire game is about balancing different considerations. Instead of strategic, thinking play... its arcade-y madness. For example: I click on a node to explore a new branch as I walk back to a LOG node and click to run a "DELETE LOGS" function to prevent them from tracking me. Now that the new branch is open, I walk forward and scan a neighboring security node, database, and power station. I start scanning the database before playing a minigame to disable the security. I really enjoyed this game, its a bit of a plate spinner so it doesn't quite give you the real life hacker feeling like uplink does but it does give you that tv/movie hacker feeling that I really enjoyed. Really good gameplay loop even if it is a bit repetitive and the story is somewhat lacking though serviceable. I do hope the developers do some updates as they can easily solve some of the complaints with just a few tweaks.

Great fast paced action strategy hacking game I enjoyed the challenge.

The mission choice literally doesn't matter. I got to the point where I was either randomly picking one or just choosing the one with the highest reward (but since you don't see the credits in level, it might not actually be the highest yielding). The story is very text heavy and not great, I started skipping through it then became annoyed whenever it made me sit and just wait for a text scroll (every 3-5 missions). Gameplay is super repetitive, but overall entertaining. I crushed some beers and was able to get through the majority of the game with only failing an optional objective once. For $5, I'm not upset, but cannot recommend this title to anyone. Edit: (I say majority of the game because when you pause, there's a guide and I've encountered everything on the list now. It's starting to get too repetitive to actually finish)
