DATING OF THE FUTURE

The greatest game I've played since Undertale. Writing was refreshing and surprised me in ways I'd never dreamed it could. Game has adjustable autoscroll and found a routine in playing it while eating dinner. Changed the way I thought about so many things and, I ♥♥♥♥ you not, has actually improved my real life relationships because I can articulate things I never had the words for before. A game for chronic overthinkers, Sci-fi fans who want to see fresh ideas done well, people looking for a very LGBTQ+ game that isn't necessarily about queerness but is absolutely dripping with it no pun intended, people who use the word blorbo, sticker collectors, recovering people pleasers, people who have a lot of opinions about porn tropes, and anyone who's already stuck this in their wishlist but hasn't gotten around to buying it yet. It's worth it.

THIS GAME HAS NO BUSINESS BEING THIS WELL WRITTEN. I LOVE IT AND WILL RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE THINKING OF TRYING IT.

“Visual Novels where you play as a femme-presenting robot with a gock on a futuristic earth” is my favourite genre of games. Does this game have erotic content? Yes it does! They are still images, though. But this game is way more than a gallery of pictures to flog the log. There is a LOT of text in this game, the fact that the protagonist voice is like typing in a keyboard is not a coincidence. You’ll read about things like “How does pornography affect the society where it is produced”, “How discovering an unusual kink within yourself may hurt you” and “How not growing from events in the past may hurt you and others around you”. Also, they show you how other people might use dating apps, so you can actually not feel bad about not being swiped right. The artistic direction is definitely made by someone who loves woman in their various shapes and sizes. The music is quite alright, doesn’t get in the way, and most of the sound effects fit where they are placed. As for actual gameplay, it is a visual novel without any quick-time events or anything like that, you can play this while enjoying a cup of your favourite beverage. What a bizarre and exasperating visual novel. I'm fascinated by avant-garde and outsider art, the conflict between different eras of feminist theory, fantasy role-play communities in spaces like Second Life, and thoughtful, sex-positive games and media. So I think I fall into the target demographic here. But even for me this was an almost comically infuriating experience. Cases in point: Despite being marketed as a gooner game, this is absolutely not something that's going to get many folks' engines revving. The H scenes between yuri/futa sex robots in the far future (where all the roboys at, btw?) are very short and extremely few and far between. Nor is this a dating sim. There are a few dialog options available once in awhile, but most seem irrelevant to the story; you do have a bevy of potential partners, but choices are mostly illusory. So, say you're open-minded and you have come to terms with the bait and switch. The pixel-ish character design and UI are chef's kiss, and you're up for a good old-fashioned VN. I love this game and I believe most people can take away something important from all of the deep, well thought out and funny dialogue. I really do suggest this for the general person that doesn't mind reading about art and life and meeting wonderful characters with so much love put into them.

It's funny and sexy and mature, in a real way instead of the lowbrow way adult media is usually seen as. Adult games have so much untapped potential, and this one is tapping the itch for frank adult conversations about sex and sexuality.
