About Djinn - The Forbidden Knowledge

"Djinn - The Forbidden Knowledge is a thrilling, open-world horror adventure with a retro aesthetic. Immerse yourself in this unique story as an Arabian Princess, trapped in a realm that mirrors your deepest fears. As you navigate the twisted world, confront your enemies and unearth the dark secrets that lurk within. Can you overcome your demons and escape this nightmare, or will it consume you forever?"
 • Exploring a unique open-world hiding many secrets
 • Captivating and mysterious story with 13 endings
 • Various challenges and enemy types to deal with
 • Haunting adventure with a playtime of 8 - 12 hours
 • Not hand-holding and old school style gameplay
 • Integrated easter eggs referencing works of horror
Djinn is an exploration-focused game that also incorporates action, platforming, and light puzzles. Despite its challenging old-school style with roguelite elements, it doesn't punish you by making you lose the inventory items upon death, allowing for steady progression. It's crucial to collect notes that unveil the story, lore, and environment's secrets as you explore and face off against various enemies and even some bosses. Resource management is also key, as you'll need to find and strategically use items to maintain your health, stamina, and sanity as you immerse further into this adventure.

Oman's 19th-century golden age, crossroads of trading routes, began to crumble under the weight of a new and terrifying threat. The once vibrant markets fell silent, replaced by a chilling emptiness and whispers. By 1840, with malevolent forces rising from the darkness and magicians weaving their deceptive schemes, the Sultan was forced to abandon his homeland. He relocated his capital to Zanzibar in Africa, leaving the Sultanate to face a future shrouded in fear and uncertainty.
Experience the unsettling story as you progress through the realm of the unknown, wielding your weapons against creatures from this world and beyond. Learn how to survive in an ever-changing environment, where the very land itself can be your enemy and every shadow hides a threat. Define your own path – explore and scavenge for resources to overcome the trials.
“Djinn - The Forbidden Knowledge” offers multiple endings, each open to your interpretation and imagination. If you pay close attention to detail as the story unfolds, you will discover new answers and unlock a more profound understanding of the narrative.
The game features a range of settings (see Screenshot 13) to customize your experience for both quality and performance. However, some of the settings change dynamically to increase your immersion and simulate your psychological and physical state, such as: FOV (80°- 90°), Camera Shake, DOF, Vignettes and Sound Levels (SFX and Music).

I´m Always in for old School Games. I´m playing for over 40 Years now and i have played so many Genres. One Genre i did not Play that often, because i´m really easy to scary, (Yeeeees the Mighty Wyvern of the Rising Sun is easy to scare, now everybody knows) is the Horror Game Genre. Okay, i´m a big Fan of the First Resident Evil but that was an Exception. Well, yes, from Time to Timee i do Horror Games. And so here we are. Welcome to DJINN-THE FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE! In DJINN you are exploring a Twisted World that could have come out of a Nightmare Dream. Dark Places, Evil Creatures, Secrets to unsolve. Maybe you ARE in a Nightmare, maybe not. The Atmosphere is very surreal and i like it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3384499970 The Game took place in the 19th Cetury in an Arabian Land. You are playing a Princess and you have to survive and Escape this Nightmare you are stucked in. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3384500269 The Graphics feel typical Old School like 90´s Games but i like it and it feels fine for the surreal and Twisted World you are in. On your way you will find many MANY notices to read to unfold the Story. Be car…

Alright. Let's chat a little bit about Djinn - The Forbidden Knowledge. I think this is an excellent example of a really cool game with a really cool concept that maybe doesn't quite land with me perfectly, but which has undeniable quality. And I know for certain that the developer cares about this game and is always looking to improve on what already has been implemented. So, at least for the foreseeable future, you can expect an active and interactive developer and a game that sees improvements when they are needed. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3383727725 So, let's talk about the positives I have found so far. For one, this game IS vibes. It is thick with creepy atmosphere and does a great job of conveying a constant sense of unease. Perpetuated by the fact that the djinn aren't always visible, and even when they aren't present, their imprint can be found in the environmental dangers from planks that give way and nails protruding from wood to sinister Chucky style dolls, to corpses that move, seemingly cursed objects in general, and so on. But when they are present, other things might occur, such as a shovel smacking you in the head or being sho…

this game is unbelievably ass. The dev gave it to me for free and i still feel scammed. Edit: One year later, still just as bad and confusing. 0/10

Other than the game being confusing I think it would be worth playing considering how different and open it is. You kinda have to just figure things out on your own though. Like learn from mistakes to see what you need to avoid. I was told I had to destroyed 3 spells and i burnt 4 spell pages and wasnt sure if anything really happened or if I had to get more. I also played this game once a couple months ago and the game at the beginning seems a whole lot different. Felt like I was starting a whole new game or maybe I just went a different direction then last time. The main thing with this game is you have to figure everything out yourself even the key binds. I had to look in the settings for a few things. I want a game to explain things to me while I'm playing the game. I dont wanna have to read it in the menu. For a indie game I think it has decent graphics and decent audio. The game isnt AMAZING but it isn't unplayable either. Think I'll try to stream it sometime soon! As I am curious about how a game like this ends. Also the first time I played the game had a lot of stuff for you to read to kinda figure out what happened. And the second time i played barley had anything to read…

The game harkens back to older times with its animation and graphics, but I like the style and setting very much. I really like the amount of endings you can achieve and while i did see others say it was open world, I didn't expect it to be as big as it was. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a spooky atmosphere, retro graphics and some decent exploration!

It just takes so long to get to the good stuff in this game. I like the promise of the multiple endings - I liked the couple of endings that I found - however the interiors feel like mazes, walking the desert is painfully slow, too many items that I interacted with were either pointless or Djinn's tricks, and having low sanity is really obnoxious. Having low sanity kind of just ruins the atmosphere for the most part with lots of random scary sound effects playing constantly, and you can't really avoid getting low sanity pretty much infinitely with how many random, sometimes invisible, encounters just keep it down. Not enough items to restore your stats vs. how many items deplete them. I wanted to like it, it has promise. It's too rough around the edges. EDIT: I never used the Teleview ability and that's my bad. That might have made some aspects of the game a lot more fun, but I don't even think that had much to do with my complaints honestly.
