Mushroots

Fun RTS game with active development. I don't think the video trailer for this game gives it justice as it only shows explosions. Think of this game as creep spreading in starcraft 2, but the creep can attack other creep in multiple ways and harden itself to defend. I hope the devs make a better gameplay trailer to showcase how this game really plays. The game currently only has matchmaking (vCPU and online) with 2 maps finished, but campaign and arcade modes are in progress. Looking forward to more updates!

Mushroots is a strategy game that takes the usual real time strategy idea and gives it a very strange setting. I am controlling a civilisation of intelligent mushrooms and trying to build up my territory while dealing with resources, buildings and combat. The game is designed to simplify some of the things that normally make RTS games feel overwhelming, so I am not constantly trying to control a huge number of units at once. I like that approach because it makes the game easier to get into while still giving me plenty of things to think about. The building side is probably what stands out to me most. There are hundreds of different buildings and a lot of them can be used to develop my territory and support my overall strategy. There are also dozens of maps and several different game modes, so I am not locked into one exact way of playing. The game puts more emphasis on planning than raw speed, which suits me because I would rather think about where I am expanding and what I need next than spend the entire match trying to perform as many actions as possible. 🍄 Sometimes the smallest spores grow into the biggest surprises.🍄 Mushroots is a wonderfully cozy little RTS that's incredibly easy to pick up while still giving you enough strategic decisions to keep every match engaging. It strikes a great balance between accessibility and planning, perfect if you're new to the genre or just want something relaxing without sacrificing thoughtful gameplay. The controls are simple, the mechanics are easy to understand, and the game does a great job of introducing its systems without overwhelming new players. While it may look simple at first glance, there is plenty of strategy hidden beneath the surface. Managing resources, planning expansions, and making smart decisions can be the difference between a thriving mushroom root system and watching your little hivemind crumble. The biggest downside is the multiplayer experience. While online matches are available, the matchmaking pool is quite quiet, meaning you'll likely need friends to play with if you want to experience the multiplayer side of the game.
