About NiGHT SIGNAL

Welcome To NiGHT SIGNAL.

Taking inspiration from The Twilight Zone and forgotten gems like The Dark Eye, NiGHT SIGNAL is a short, nightmarish first-person horror experience that sees you breaking in a new television set, only to find that it picks up strange signals after dark.

From Nick Lives, the creator of A Wonderful Day For Fishing and Doodle Date, and the artist behind We Need To Go Deeper.

Features

  • Watch four channels of original programming in a warped 1960's America using a state-of-the-art remote control.
  • Manipulate antenna to pick up strange signals at night.
  • Track your sightings using a TV Guide someone slipped under your door.
  • Gaze upon hand-made horrors of flesh and clay crafted by Nick Lives.
  • Experience a haunting original soundtrack by David Johnsen.
  • An unlockable in-game Art Book, detailing the game's development history.
  • A short but strange experience intended to be finished in under an hour.

Night Signal does its best trying to nail the late night television programming that you'd often see as a kid while incorporating a little bit of The Twilight Zone in a clay animation aesthetic. Although it's a short experience, I think that it delivers on what it set out to do without becoming stale or frustrating. Having each channel do something different like spawning enemies, changing the layout of the room, or put an effect on the player makes you strategize flipping through the channels and genuinely interested to see what is yet to come. That being said, the combat is a bit wonky and some effects will still play out even after the game is 'paused' while others wont. I really enjoyed playing Night Signal and if this developer's games are just as creative, I'll definitely be checking them out.

Oof. Hate to give this game a don't recommend because it was clearly a high effort game (after reading the art book) and I have deep respect for the process. The atmosphere is creepy and I think it achieves a lot of what it's aiming for. Unfortunately, it was also incredibly buggy. I managed to get the menu stuck open at one point, and the game got deeply confused when I then managed to die. Couldn't restart, had to kill the process. Then, on completion, the end cut scene didn't play and I got stuck at a black screen and again had to kill the process. It's also a very short experience and I'd have trouble recommending it at full price even without the bugs.

It is a really fun game, especially if you like analog horror, but ONLY get on sale. Its just not worth 10 dollars for what is a 1 hour game. Its a great hour, but not worth the full price
