Void Climber

[h1]Felky Fun Meter[/h1] [h1]|-------|---| [7/10] Pretty fun![/h1] I like the different biomes and their shapes (some are more vertical, some are more horizontal); I like the upgrades from the towers and they all feel powerful and significant; I like that if I enjoy a specific seed I can lock it and try to get good.. This could have been my favorite climbing game but having to spend a resource to double-jump is really frustrating and ends up sucking out all the fun of running through the game.. I can't stop myself from spamming spacebar and jumping around everywhere in a game like this so when doing so is putting the main resource of the game to zero faster than I can get it back; I just can't. Also I understand why platforms disappears and it makes the game harder but it's very frustrating to get super high to a point and realise that there is no more available routes because I took to much time to get there.. All of those issues would be solved if there was some kind of options or settings to customise the run. I would love to try to climb to the end with unlimited time so less pressure; and no cost on double-jump so less frustration. ..that would be [b]FUN[/b].

It's interesting to move around and every time there's a completely new level and the idea itself feels fresh!

Very barebones, there is not even a title screen. The platform creation mechanics seem underdeveloped. Feels like a prototype or a student project. I like that worlds can be seeded, so you can retry them. All in all, I [b]personally[/b] veer towards a negative review for Void Climber: not terrible, but not something I would spend money on. Still, [b]if you like this kind of climbing game, give Void Climber a go.[/b]

Having played some Foddian games in the past, and watched numerous playthroughs of others (Getting Over It, Only Up, and Get To Work, to name a few), I am fairly familiar with the Foddian genre; Void Climber is a welcomed addition, with its own unique twist. By incorporating aspects from procedural and rogue-like games, Void Climber takes what would ordinarily require immense quantities of skill and patience, and adds components of strategy as well. Being procedurally generated, the game is infinitely replay-able, and the seeded mode allows for refinement of strategies and skills against an unchanging level layout. With the upgrade system, you can tailor your experience to match your preferred play style. While I have not personally managed to reach the top on the seeds I have played, I have never felt unfairly punished for my lack of skill. Exploring the upgrades and infinite level layouts that Void Climber offers, not to mention the beautiful scenery, is consistently enjoyable. I would recommend this game to anyone.

If you like sweaty palms and abstract puzzle jumping. This game is for you.

Too difficult for me but it plays well and is an interesting twist on the "Only Up" genre of games.
