Mushroom Age

I remember playing this game back in 2010. It was one of the most memorable games I've ever played and that still rings true to this day. Can't recommend Mushroom Age enough. You play as Vera, a professional psychoanalyst who, in her endeavor to find her missing fiance Tom, ends up going on the world's wackiest adventure through space and time. It's a point-and-click hidden object game with various puzzles sprinkled throughout. The game is rated E10+ so don't expect anything super difficult, but even now as an adult there were a few points where the game was just challenging enough to still be engaging. If the gameplay can't keep you engaged then the nonsensical story and subpar voice acting sure will! It's possible to finish the game in a day. This game is basically a trip except the shrooms are in your PC instead of you. Mushroom Age has something for everybody! Rewriting history? Have at it. Transition music you can vibe to? It's tragically short, but it's there. Albert Einstein? You're gonna have to settle for Einbock. Tampering with grave sites? Uh... interesting hobby. Inventing history's first time machine? Now we're talking. Talking a T-Rex into becoming a veget…

This game is completely bizarre and that makes it awesome, all the characters are insane and I'm impress by the amount of voice acting throughout. Some puzzles I had no clue what to do outside of just trying random things until something worked(which is good and helps make this game wild). There is a toadstool puzzle at one point where the experience of figuring it out I think really summarizes how it feels overall to play this game and follow the insane plot. [spoiler]I think Tom is a real asshat and we should have been given a choice at the end on who we wanted to marry[/spoiler]

Game crashed on level 15! During the minigame where you try to turn Vera back into a human, the humanoid mushroom doesn't move all around the place when walking. Not sure if It's because of my computer being too powerful or I need to adjust a few settings.

I discovered this game when my parents bought me an Intel Pentium 4 pc. This was one of the games included with the pc. I instantly got hooked because I liked puzzles. The story was simple but exciting enough back then. Characters and their voice acting were goofy at times but those added to its charm. Playing this again reminded me of those simpler times. The game ran almost perfectly. Two problems I encountered were the sounds when you click at objects disappear after a while and objects sometimes disappear when they go back to their position. Latter made it harder for me to complete the task when Vera became a toadstool. Overall, a great game. A hidden object game with other mini games and time travel plot. True to its name, there were mushrooms involved. Wish this had achievements though.

I remember playing this game on my iPod back in 2008. I got stuck at the Socrates level because the hints didn't show the keys or mechanisms. I'm really happy that when I suddenly thought of this game a couple of days ago, there was a Steam sale for this type of games going on. As a nearly 20-year-old game, the story is pretty ahead of its time and really interesting. It was probably one of the earliest adventure and hidden-object puzzle games with a female lead. Most of the puzzles are at a good difficulty level, and interacting with people or things from different times is a lot of fun. It's a shame that when I was a kid, I got stuck before the timequake part of the story. However, the game does have some big problems. Some puzzles are way too hard and boring (especially that damn heaven pinball), and the heroine's voice acting is super stiff and wooden. Also, the game title shows up a bit late, so I wasted a lot of time and effort searching based on my memory of time machine instead of mushroom. Still, for a game from 2008, it's quite excellent in its genre.
