What Steam players say

Players are deeply divided on this nostalgic early-2000s platformer. Many who grew up with it cherish its quirky charm and unique design elements despite its jank, though some note it suffers from significant technical issues including crashes, poor controller support, and optimization problems that require workarounds like framerate limiting to play properly. The port to Steam has exposed these problems, with some players finding the experience too broken to recommend while others are simply happy to revisit a childhood favorite.
I received this game on disk as a gift on New Year's Eve in 2005, very happy to see it making it to Steam. Very nostalgic.13 found this helpful

I played this game as a kid, I am quite surprised to find it here now. Funny how you can jump over the gates in the pirate themed levels basically bypassing huge parts of the level. So, this game is quite jank, but personally there are a lot of small flairs to it, which I gravitated towards as a kid and so I quite liked it. For example that intro cutscene I found kind of mesmerizing in a way, and the little things like luring camels to jump on them, the funny noises of the enemies which sometimes cut each other out, the premise of saving your best friend monkey, the sparkly round save pedestals. It is tricky though, there's some finicky platforming and enemies that fire very hard to avoid homing shots. I'm happy the game is here. If the game crashes on the caribbean boss for you, try limiting the game's framerate. I used a software called RivaTuner Statistics Server. I set it quite low (dunno if necessary), not ideal, but it let me finish the game. Would also probably work in any other sections the game possibly crashes. Really I'm gonna put this as not recommended, most of all because of the bugs and crashing not being fixed/game not being updated to run properly for modern syst…6 found this helpful
I was excited to try this game, however on setting it to max resolution the game refused to open. There is no windowed mode, so when loading the game in a smaller resolution, you're limited to a small square in the middle of a black void. I did manage to get the game to run at the second highest resolution - however on proceeding to double jump outside of the starting area, the game immediately crashed. As such I can't recommend the game as it just doesn't work properly.4 found this helpful
horrible port, controller doesn't work properly, and the actual gameplay is just boring. This is one of those games that should have remained in the past.2 found this helpful
⚠️ CRASH FIX – READ THIS ⚠️ The game is not optimized and crashes because modern PCs run it at 800+ FPS. When FPS goes over 30, the game’s scripts break and it crashes at specific moments. Fix (works): Download RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) It will start minimized! Add BillyBlade.exe to RTSS (Steam path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Billy Blade Temple of Time) Set Framerate limit = 30 FPS Keep RTSS running (minimized) while playing After this, the crashes stop. Glad I could finally play this childhood classic without replaying the same level ten times. Enjoy.1 found this helpful
