Friend of a Slime

First of all, I like the game. I like survivor games and slimes so, this was meant to be a good match for me. The graphics are cute and the slime partner dynamic is a cool idea. However, I can't currently recommend because of a few issues, at least when playing on the hardest difficulty, so some points might be moot if you play on lower difficulty (which i couldn't test because you can't seem to change the difficulty after starting a game and i couldn't be bothered to start completely from scratch again): - The reward scaling for gold in a run is completely out of balance. You get extremely little money durin a run, and then a HUGE chunk if you manage to complete a run. I get that it is intentional because finishing a run sucessfully is meant to be the most rewarding, but it's so extreme here that you can hardly progress towards finishing a run by doing unsuccessful runs, at least for the very first stage. For later stages, you could go back and grind gold by finishing earlier/easier stages, in theory, but that also feels like kind of a waste because you always want to progress in the currently hardest stage for achievements/unlocks, instead of re-playing easier stages where you …

Friend of a Slime, developed and published by Chrio Games, is a compact yet surprisingly layered horde-survival roguelike that wraps fast-paced action in an endearing pixel-art presentation. At first glance, it appears to follow the familiar structure popularized by survivor-style games—short runs, escalating enemy waves, incremental upgrades—but it distinguishes itself through its central mechanic: you are never fighting alone. This review is going to provide two different stances: (1) for casual players, which is the principal intended audience, and (2) general rogue-like players. (1) As a casual game: For an incredibly casual-oriented rogue-like, this is sublime. The graphics are 'cute' and 'adorable', the music is simple, the base map and layout is incredibly easy to navigate and the game itself requires no explanation for any component of gameplay. The content and progression is absolutely fine for such an audience. - 8.5/10 - hard to improve without incoporating some points in the following section. (2) As a game for rogue-like enthusiasts: In contrast to the above, this is a rather terrible game for rogue-like enjoyers and gamers more generally. There is a serious lack of progression to work with through the game, the weapons are incredibly unbalanced (so much so that only 3 weapons are actually viable at the highest difficulty), similarly the 'item' slots are equally highly unbalanced. Moreover, the selection of skills within the game does not come with bans or re-rolls, meaning that one can very quickly be forced into taking a terrible weapon, or a terrible item - on the later maps this is …

um bom jogo, mas precisa de mais tempo no forno tem alguns bugs de UI, precisa de balanço nas armas e nas melhorias e claro, precisa de algo especial para despertar interesse e manter o jogador a slime do jogo é fofinha, mas representa muito pouco em termos de diferencial ou acrescimo a jogabilidade sendo muito sincero, não vou negativar pq não quero ser um desmotivador de um pequeno dev mas ainda assim, o jogo não vale o preço cheio que está sendo pedido no momento (R$16,99)...

Mouse controls didn't really work, not sure why, which make selecting menu options a little annoying. Gameplay is as expected, it meets the requirements of the genre without doing anything novel. Adding the slime pal doesn't do enough to differentiate this game from the other. better, games. You definitely want to be moving across the map to collect chests for upgrades rather than staying in a finite area. The sword weapon feels awful, maybe it's better upgraded but it's vastly inferior to the staff and bow as far as the starter weapons go. I think it's questionable to make something like Vampire Survivors, with pixel-style graphics even, and make it even simpler and less impressive. The game is okay, there's nothing wrong with it, but Vampire Survivors is already cheap. I wouldn't recommend this unless you really needed a different, cheap, play in the background, timewasting game.

(Only played 15 min) Seems like a fairly standard Survivors from what I saw. Runs well, tight hitboxes, gfx are fine. Although the game seems worth playing I'm going to refund for now and pick it up again later when on sale as I already have 50000 survivors titles in my library and this one doesn't seem like it will bring anything new.
