About Screwball

Someone's at the door.Featuring a four-branched story and over 80 puzzles derived from crafting more than 500 items, in Screwball you will craft items to decipher codes, solve crimes, and ponder clues all the way to the Pearly Gates!Voiced by a one-man cast, Screwball was inspired by a classic work of literature, “The Screwtape Letters” by C.S. Lewis. Screwball is a powerful tale of loss, ambition, rage, and longing, striking at the heart of a fundamental question of mankind: What does it mean to be good?Screwball features:
  • Two hints for every single puzzle and the solution. You'll never have to Google how to solve a puzzle, because every solution is available in-game (along with the ability to turn off the display of the solutions, if you want)
  • Some of the greatest insults mankind has devised to date (i.e., "you overweight offshoot of a cheap crime novel from the 80's")
  • A jazz-based original soundtrack
  • Puzzles you'll actually have to think about
  • Hand-animated artwork reminiscent of a Sunday morning cartoon strip
And more!Bursting at the seams with comedic sequences, hilariously written by an award-winning author, entirely hand-drawn and animated (without any AI whatsoever), this is your opportunity to answer the door of your own accord.Because even if you don’t, the door will be answered for you.

Honestly, I haven't giggled this hard at a game in a while and I am SO grateful I found it mentioned on reddit. It brought me joy in a dark place and I look forward to once I complete it, letting it rest, forgetting some of it, and then replaying it again. I was going to wait and finish it before reviewing, but I laughed way too hard at "prelude to disaster" and its successive item. I look forward to new games/installments from the wonderful dev. Thank you! 10/10, please play

What a great game!!!! Screwball has you putting things together in unusual ways while guided by humor (sometimes dark humor, my favorite kind) and a driving desire to know what happens next. I like that it is played alone, sometimes you just want to figure things out by yourself. It makes you really think about how things go together. Once started, you will kiss the rest of your day goodbye and be very happy about it!!

"I'm going to go see if Charun's head fits in a pencil sharpener" had me hooked from the start. This game is hilarious and very entertaining; it took me a bit to figure out that I'd unlocked anything I'd identified from other materials, and I'm embarrassed to admit how long it took me to learn I could just summon paper at will (it was a *long* game of rock paper scissors, even with the hints), but once I figured that out I had a blast throughout the introduction. I just started the second part, but I'm thoroughly enjoying the relaxing pace I can play at and the exploration, along with the narration. I'm not sure how long the game is and I could potentially see the mechanics getting slightly tedious after a while, but for now I'm having a blast and would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a good puzzle game that's not too hard but not too trivial. I can't believe it's taken me this long to find this? Eager to hear more ways my dust bunny self can be insulted by the narrator.
