Asteroid Requiem

Alright. [i]Asteroid Requiem[/i] is done and dusted. In retrospect, after playing the game, the title makes perfect sense. This wasn't a particularly lengthy game, weighing in at around a half-hour plus or minus a few minutes depending on how the space debris falls. Anyway, it seems appropriate to keep this review relatively brief as well. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3529898602 This is actually a story driven game, fully voice acted, and actually, while the voice acting is a bit over the top, it also makes complete sense in context to the story, which goes from simple musing to the stress of remembering past events to the realization of what one must do to avoid great calamity and find inner peace. More or less. The backdrop to the story is allegorical and focuses on how we as humanity continue to ignore the ever-worsening global environmental crisis that many people ignore or flat out deny despite the fact that we are already past the point of no return and are firmly in the "try not to make it any worse" stage. When I was growing up, my dad used to say the environment was someone else's problem, and he was unfortunately correct. He's no longer with us…

it's a neat, novel, and short nice experience

Short, relaxing, and satisfying. Smashing space junk while unlocking memories felt simple and meaningful. Chill soundtrack too!

It is tedious with no payoff. You are an asteroid that used to be a human somehow? And each time you hit devris you scream to yourself. So the object is to hit things. The debris seems to veer away from you while other rocks tend to zoom in on you with no hope to escape them sometimes. This makes the last achievement very awful and not worth it. Aside from achievments there doesn't seem to be a goal. I wish there was more to it. Maybe special asteroid moves or attacks. Maybe an actual story other than EMO angst. Maybe a cutscene before starting a new level. Multiple levels both off planet and off would be more of a story.

I enjoyed this game, The controls are a bit difficult to get used to at first but with a bit of time it gets more intuitive for how the traveling is when rotating around planets. The art is beautiful and the voice acting is done well.
