Bluey's Quest For The Gold Pen

Okay, overall the game isn't bad, not at all. It has potential. The gameplay is simple enough that even small kids can play it, but not so easy that older players get bored right away. The world design reminds me a bit of the old Game Boy games like Zelda. The problem, as always, is everything else: Video sequences often just don't start at all. The sound plays, but you only get a black screen or a still image. The voice acting is only in English, which is a shame because the other Bluey game we have is really nicely dubbed in German. That wouldn't even be such a huge deal if the German texts hadn't been translated by a (very dumb) AI. Some of it is so bad that I sometimes have to guess what they actually meant. For example, the English "Exit" was translated as "Ausfahrt" — which means like a highway exit or parking lot exit... when it should obviously be "Beenden" (Quit/Exit). For a €40 game, I really expect more. This is not acceptable. Texts translated by AI — and clearly by a bad one that no one bothered to proofread afterward — plus game-breaking bugs that mean you can't properly experience the game. Played this with my 4 year old, she was having a really good time with it until the difficulty spike around the 4th/5th area. I played a lot of it while she watched me but still enjoyed our 4-5 hours with it. I wish there were more to the achievements, it would extend the playtime by a lot of hours if you had to complete each area fully. Wait for a sale, it's worth around $20 in my opinion 7/10

Hermione and I smashed and now our 4 year old wizard love child loves Bluey. Keeps her entertained and controls are simple enough for her to use the controller by herself. So far seems to have enough content to justify the cost. Definitely more than the other one.

Bluey: Quest for the Golden Pen is a fun little collectathon adventure that does exactly what you'd expect from a Bluey game. It is very clearly aimed at younger kids, which is reflected in the difficulty, but if you go in with the right expectations, it can still be enjoyable for players of all ages. Unlike the previous game, it doesn't try to recreate Bluey's world exactly. Instead, it presents the adventure as an imaginative play session, with the same humour, charm, and creativity from the show. The cutscenes are animated in the familiar Bluey style, while the worlds themselves feel like they belong to the kids' pretend adventure. The gameplay is built around exploring worlds, collecting items, and completing simple puzzles. Exploration is enjoyable, with some worlds offering different ways to get around. My personal favourite was the world with the boat, which gave the exploration a bit more variety. However, the collectibles themselves don't offer much of a reward besides increasing the completion number on the world select screen. I previously gave this a negative review, due to a crash on the first level that broke a collectible. However, this was the only crash we encountered, and the collectibles turned out to be less important than I assumed -- the game is very generous, and doesn't require a level to be 100% completed before moving onto the next. My 7 year old was able to complete this game entirely by herself. There were definitely times when she got frustrated due to the game introducing new mechanics, or requiring challenges to be solved within a certain amount of time, but this proved a good teaching opportunity for resilience. (And since each level typically requires only 50% of the challenges to be completed, she could skip the ones she found hardest.) Having completed the game, she has decided she wants to go back and try some of the earlier levels to collect things she missed. Her skills have really improved, and she's really proud of herself. I regret judging the game so quickly, based on one crash. It's really very good for a children's game.
