Cloudy & Stormy: Pawtastic Adventure!

Bright and cheerful platformer that is easy to enjoy. Switching between flying as Cloudy and dashing as Stormy keeps the gameplay feeling fresh, and the colorful regions are fun to explore. It has a lighthearted energy that makes it great for casual play sessions. I liked the simple controls and the variety of little challenges and collectibles along the way. It is not overly complex, but that works in its favor.

You play as Cloudy&Stormy. 2 go-happy pups, that were magically transported to a mysterious world, after they threw a controller at the console. Seconds after their arrival, some magical beings stolen and cut their blanket to parts. From that point, your goal is to recover them and return back home. So much for the plot... it's not very complicated, but that's not what this game is about. Here, gameplay takes central stage. And it's great; varied levels, a multitude of mechanics, enemies with their own distinctive set of moves, collectibles and secrets hidden on the maps, and bosses at the end of each chapter. Personally, it reminded me of the old days with the first games in the Mario series... Pure, unadulterated fun, which is the essence of a good platform game. By the way, the fact that the game strongly resembles early games from the Mario or Rayman series makes it ideal for children. It is not an overly complicated platformer, and there are additional options to make the gameplay even easier. I don't remember how I came across this game but it is definitely underrated. It has a fun story about dogs traveling through colorful worlds, making friends, and trying to get your blanket back. The artwork and music is great while the platforming is simple and straightforward. Even if it gets too hard, there are assist features to make it like strolling through the clouds. There are a lot of collectables and customization options to find and unlock and it has a lot of personality when it comes to what they were going for. Its just a cosy and cute adventure and thats just all we need sometimes. My only gripe is that the game progression feels sluggish at times; especially since you have to beat each stage twice/collect everything in a single run if you want 100% (not to mention there is no way to skip cutscenes, but those are few and far between), but other than that this is a great hidden game if you want a platformer that isn't so complex.

If you enjoy simplistic 2D platforming collectathons in the same vein as a Kirby title, you'll more than likely enjoy this. It's overall a fairly decent title that I could see having massive appeal if it ever gets ported to the Switch/Switch 2. My only gripes with the game is that though there are only about 50 levels they tend to go on a bit too long which makes missing any hidden collectables for %100 completion a bit of a chore as well as a no-death run for every level that only unlocks after you've beaten the level once which doubles the playtime of each one when it could have just been unlocked at the start. You can reset every room and you typically get more than 3 "lives" for it so it's not even really much of a challenge at all. If you're not a fan of random level gimmicks that change how the game plays there are a fair few of them that were relatively frustrating. Something important to note as of writing this review in July of 2025 is that the game in it's current state will occasionally have errors for seemingly no reason and crash (I've gotten a few just from getting hit by projectiles or enemies when they're mid teleport.)
