Paragnosia: Museum

Paragnosia:Museum follows in the footsteps of the original Paragnosia with nearly identical gameplay, but features a larger setting that makes the experience longer and more challenging. The atmospheric and audio-visual design remains expertly crafted and deeply chilling. Set in an archaeological museum, the location offers high variety in its anomalies, complemented by a rewarding nightmare mode and a hidden ending. Technically, the game is very polished, running smoothly and flawlessly on a 4K ultrawide setup. (I did not experience any of the issues reported by some other reviewers).

Fun anomoly game!

I've completed this game a while ago, and still come back to it from time to time. After reading the review, I was not sure if it's going to be good, but somehow I managed to get more hours in this one, than the first game. There are more rooms, more anomalies to spot, more things to keep track of. The setting is executed quite well, and from all the anomalies, maybe only one or two are on the more annoying side. The performance chugged a bit, and I can see why it would frustrate people. I actually ended up tinkering, and found out that editing the boot.config file improved the gameplay, but still didn't completely fix the frame drops. If it's of any relevance, I changed the following: gfx-enable-gfx-jobs from 1 to 0 and gfx-threading-mode from 6 to 2 I'm not a programmer and I have zero knowledge of how and why that works, so don't yell at me if it breaks things. I hope the developer can read it and figure out why those values improved gameplay, at least in my experience. All in all, I had a good time with the game and I'm really excited to see that third installment was announced.

There's something very satisfying about this game. The camera on a rail set up somehow breathes a new life into a saturated anomaly genre. There is more of a story driven focus here too, which is kinda nice. You have the sense of something malevolent lurking inside the museum somewhere. Things change if you look at them, things follow you around or come out of hiding as youve passed. You get the sense you are being toyed with. The difficulty itself is at a nice level. There are 130 anomalies total, some are subtle, but none are so difficult that you feel that the experience is cheapend with artificial difficulty. The hidden ending was great too I hope they stick to this threaded narrative in future games. Other reviews have mentioned lagging/stuttering affecting play but I did not notice this until after the game was complete and in the banishment phase. That was very very laggy. This is a fabulous sequel and the game is going in the right direction. I would recommend purchasing this and I will be looking for any future releases, too.

For such a straightforward, single-mechanic game, the effort the developers have put into this is commendable. I've had hours of fun with this and its predecessor, and when I showed this to my friends it actually became kind of a party game where we pass the controller with each new stage and help each other spot stuff. Everybody pretty much has the same progression where eventually we're asking: "was that always there? wasn't that minor inconsequential detail different last time? or am I crazy?" it's fun to share the paranoia :) we are all stoked for the third one.

Pretty similar to the first game. If you enjoyed the first one then you'll most likely enjoy this one as well.
