Dragon Eclipse

It's so sad this was abandoned.... It had great potential

A fun but strange game. Play Slay the Spire instead if you haven't already, as Dragon Eclipse is heavily inspired by it. That said, if you remain curious, the game offers about 10 hours of content, which is rather meager for a roguelite deckbuilder. This is largely due to some rather odd balancing and game design choices. The gameplay At the start of each run, you select a "Tamer" and three "Mystlings" (tamed creatures). These initial choices determine the starting cards. Then you find yourself on a map where you can choose the order of your fights. Choosing your fights allows you to unlock other paths, towards other enemies, chests, merchants, trainers, healing totems, etc... And you have to choose them well because you only have a maximum of 10 fights before the boss fight. During each fight, only the Mystling in the front line attacks, the others activate their passive abilities. After a battle, you earn resources that can be spent on blessings (buffs) and new cards. A Mystling that receives 4 blessings evolve and gain a super powerful buff. There is no automatic healing between battles. Once the first run is successful, the next act is unlocked. Why didn't you just use the same system as the board game version? This feels like another Slay the Spire / Card En Ciel knock off as opposed to the really inventive gameplay you brought to the table. Not only that, but the dialogue is VERY OBVIOUSLY really bad AI. Super disappointing.

Simply something is wrong with the gameplay loop in here. Going after the enemy when you need those activations before is simply unacceptable. The damage of your pets is ridiculous, only viable options is going for the multistrike, Healing is absent. Simply all of the builds are falling into the same builds. Some of the pets are ridiculous - 5hp, damn. Basic attack card costs 2 - nope. Sometimes there is a shield card, sometimes no - why?

Bit harsh this game is mixed cause it's quite a bit of a fun. It definetly needs a way to pad out the gameplay a bit cause the campaign feels very short and easy (only 1 loss + final act was easiest act of them all) Was expecting some big reveal or boss fight at the end of act5 but nothing much happened... However still a good game: Art is good, sound is good, Mechanics feel fun. Love the evolving aspect (bit sad the one monster i picked at the beginning is the only that doesn't evolve ^^' odd choice) The navigation is also a bit odd, perhaps show where you clicked so you can see where you are walking to? sometimes it feels like my characters was just walking wherever it wanted xD. Conclusion: Give me moar! and polish it Pain Points: Story, Compaign, Navigation.

Its a niece genre, with small overlap (creature collecting & card battler) but for those that are intrueged by the combination I can higly recomend this game. If you are only interested in either of those maybe try it out on sale.
