About The Lord of the Parties

The Lord of the Parties is a 2D Party Shoot'em Up RPG game about a girl who goes on an adventure searching for her missing father and a childhood friend who helps the girl.
Explore a unique fantasy world with various teammates you meet along the travels.

When you wake up in the morning, your party members decide what to do today.
Party members who do not like the decision or are in poor condition may refuse to participate in the mission.

You control the entire party, not just one unit.
If at least one is alive, the adventure can continue.

During the adventure, you will find captured soldiers. Rescue them, and they will be happy to help you.

If three or more of the same soldier joins the party during the adventure, they will unite to become a higher rank soldier.

Party members can join up to 10 people. If there are more than 10, the weakest soldier leaves the party and fights independently.

When party members reach rank two or higher, they use their ultimates, and their ultimates evolve in three stages according to their rank.

The bar is available in town.
If you drink or eat food, you can get EXP and receive quests from the villagers.
However, if you drink too much alcohol, your EXP may go down, so don't drink too much.

You can strengthen your party through training. In addition to the helpful abilities in battle, you can also train living abilities such as item crafting and synthesizing.

You can craft items from materials obtained during battle or synthesize the same items to obtain a higher-level item. You can also sell or buy items.

Depending on the equipment worn, party members may reach a higher rank.
As the rank increases, you will be able to improve your abilities and use Ultimates.

At night, you have to sleep in an inn or camp. You have to pay to use the Inn, but you can get quests and swap equipment. If you decide not to stay at an inn, you'll have to camp.
It doesn't cost money, but EXP will be slightly reduced.

There are main quests to progress the story, quests to recruit a mate, and sub-quests to fulfill the requests of the villagers. Depending on the type of quest, the objective of the quest will vary.

✦ AI summary

The Lord of the Parties combines vertical shooting action with RPG progression and party building in a way that most players find surprisingly addictive, with satisfying moment-to-moment gameplay, charming 2D anime art, and a well-designed grind loop that feels rewarding. However, complaints center on the unpolished UI that can feel cluttered and small, inconsistent difficulty spikes where party members can die instantly, janky controller support, and a story that some find generic despite its good voice acting and world-building ambitions.

FULL VERSION WORKS FINE, DEMO IS BROKE The bosses are supposed to jump back to the back of the screen when they hit the front, it's actually a cool mechanic lol Really surprised by this one, has a fairly addictive "farm for materials to upgrade units" central gameplay loop. Initially how the map works and the inn and stuff felt a bit awkward, but I got the hang of it pretty quick. Nice balance of grind needed to push through, but skill also carrying you pretty far. It's always satisfying to come back from getting down to one unit, or finishing a boss with your last unit poking down their final HP. I skip all the story cutscenes, they're super standard party RPG fare with zero personality on any of the characters lol. But that's not why we're here.

The Lord of the Parties is a weird combination of action RPG and vertically scrolling shmup. Unfortunately it's not very good at either, with kind of lame character growth (small improvements from leveling up, sure, but basically it's just what rank of items you have equipped on your characters that determines how good they are entirely) and worse shmup gameplay, basically just going through long autoscrolling stages while making sure to not let your unwieldy-large party take any hits. Not that this is usually very hard, being as you can just kill almost all enemies before they attack, but sometimes you can't and half or more of your party dies instantly. Now, the game tries a few times to imply that getting hit isn't that bad - you can "rescue" captured soldiers to replace any party members you lose, and they can come at surprisingly high ranks - but rescued soldiers do literally 10% or less of the damage of your actual party members and don't have ultimate abilities. Also, party members aren't very balanced - one of them doubles the damage output of your entire party just for having her around - so the gimmick of "sometimes randomly your characters won't want to adventure so you…

A clever little game! A satisfying combination of individual elements that would be too simple on their own, and a surprisingly tough iteration on vertical shooter mechanics. Lots of cute touches, definitely made with love. Despite the simplicity, the game has managed to introduce something new in the large majority of quests. There's some new enemy, or trap, or goal, or rescue-able ally. Character portrait art is what it is - not my favorite, but the game doesn't lean into it. There's a surprising amount of surprisingly-good voice acting, and the story they're telling (thus far) is well-written and seems intent on doing some real analysis of the "medieval fantasy" setting as we know it. Cons: At present, the UI is a mix of too busy and too small, and controller support is jank. Sound effects can overwhelm the audio system and get very crunchy. Nothing complex here, but if you want a simple game with some nice framing, TLotP is worth a shot. Check out the Demo!
