"Alekon" is a nice little game by a very small team that takes the formula of the N64-FPS-on-rails-shooter "Pokemon Snap" and sprinkles it with a lot of customisation, unlockables and minigames. You arrive at the realm of imagination and revert its apathetic state by reframing its denizens, capture them in diffent activities and doing quests for them. The world is quite whimsical and the creatures (while feeling a little bit bland sometimes) are charming, there is a free-roaming option of each area after you beat the on-rails sections (but the mild platforming in it can get a little agrravating, because of the stiff floaty controls). Also there is some puzzling, which fits in the pacing well. Once there is mentioning of real life brands and subculture which I found a little offputting, put other than that the narrative is quite befitting and upbeat. Quite a unique title for all ages
except for maybe the "doing shrooms and spacing out part"
that can be completed in around 5 hours (and maybe 100% in around 10?). Give it a go if you like a carefree experience!1 found this helpful
A Pokemon Snap-like where every new creature you photograph gives you some kind of reward. Lots of fun so far!
If you liked Pokemon Snap, you are going to love this game. The ability to wander the areas on foot after completing a round of each area is game changing! Its so fun to try and get 10 on each pose though it does feel goofy sometimes what is and isn't a good angle.
I got this game through the 2023 Yogscast Jingle Jam and it sat dormant in my library for a while until I finally played it. Once I did, the game was an absolute joy! It was relatively simple gameplay but still varied and highly engaging, and the minigames were fantastic! It made it so exciting to unlock new monsters, and finding all the poses was super fun.
100% Alekon on 6/2/2024. My wife and I just fully beat this game. It is a single player game, but we took turns taking pictures. To describe it simply, it's similar to a popular snap game except you take pictures of "fictions" to bring back creativity to the realm. A lot of mechanics make it better than the other snap in my opinion; ability to clearly get all poses, tell if you've gotten a better picture while taking the picture, and the ability to free roam once you fully unlock an area. Tons of minigames as well to complete as you find and collect the fictions. Highly recommend playing.
Alekon is a gentle, imaginative adventure that centers on curiosity, creativity, and the simple joy of observation rather than challenge or competition. Developed and published by The Alekon Company, the game invites players into the whimsical Realm of Fiction, a dreamlike world inhabited by strange and endearing creatures known as fictions, each embodying abstract ideas, emotions, or concepts. Rather than pushing the player forward with urgency or conflict, Alekon encourages a relaxed pace, asking players to slow down, look closely, and engage with its world through the lens of a camera. The core of the experience revolves around photography. Players travel through colorful environments, initially along guided, on-rails paths, and are tasked with capturing photographs of fictions in expressive and interesting moments. Scoring is based on elements such as framing, clarity, angle, and how prominently the subject appears in the shot, rewarding experimentation and careful timing. This system is easy to understand but surprisingly satisfying, as even small improvements in composition can noticeably improve results. Early on, the structured camera paths help ease players into the mecha…
