Shutterbuds is a student project with potential fun in its core concept, particularly for casual multiplayer sessions with friends, but it suffers from significant technical issues including severe camera lag and poor optimization that makes it difficult to recommend in its current state. Player opinions are highly polarized, ranging from those who find it entertaining for a school project to those frustrated by performance problems, while some appreciate the silly social aspects like the hammer combat and character customization despite the game's limited content.
"shutterbuds" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from Champlain College in Vermont. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. The students made a game with an okay premise, you need to run around a forest and take photos of various Pokemon or whatever, great. The quality is lacking, and there's a slew of bugs and issues, and zero optimisation, which makes this unpleasant to play. These problems will never be fixed, the students have moved on. Played single player and it was so laggy and got stuck more than once at the board where you turn in things. want to like but it needs to be fixed.
Game sucks keep it up
You can hit your friends with a hammer, and name yourself slurs. 10/10. Needs more content though. Truly, a good 15 mins of my life
