Alphabear is an award-winning, original English word puzzle game by Spry Fox.
In Alphabear, you spell words by selecting letters on a grid. When you use letters that are adjacent to each other, bears appear! The more letters you use, the bigger the bear gets, and the more points you earn! When your score is high enough, you'll also win a bear for your permanent collection. These bears can be used as powerups in future games! They increase the points you earn, extend your timer, increase or decrease the frequency with which letters appear on the game board, and more. And your bears "learn" from the words you use in-game and will repeat them back to you in unexpectedly witty and horrible ways. ;-)
The original version of Alphabear has been downloaded over four million times and has won numerous awards, including Google's "Best Indie" award in 2016. This updated version of Alphabear has been enhanced and completely rebalanced. All free-to-play elements have been removed from the game and new features have been added, including:

There is a special place in my heart for word games. I am one of those people still playing Wordle, and I pair it up with Spelling Bee, Connections, and the whole bivvy of word games that live on the New York Times word game section. That I’d be delighted by Alphabear is more or less a given. It’s got words. It’s got bears. It’s basically bear-themed Boggle. I enjoy it very much. Presented with an unfurling grid of letters, the game challenges players to make words with the letters available to them. Each letter becomes a bear, with adjacent bears coalescing into larger and larger bears that are worth more points at the end of the round. Each letter also has a timer, which, when it ticks to zero, turns the letter into a stone block, preventing the growth of nearby bears. Through the combination of bear growth and the block timers, the game becomes a puzzle, not only of making words, but of using letters that will ultimately prevent timers from ticking down and fill the entire grid with bears. Cute bears! And good for your brain
If you like word games and this is on sale for a few bucks, I would recommend it. But some of the levels are timed, which I don't like, and ultimately is what prevented me from progressing past chapter 4 of the campaign. Also, it's an old game, and the daily challenges and the asynchronous multi-player is broken. The bear collecting is a plus.
Fun little brain teaser game.
I remember playing it on my phone years ago. Happy to play it again.
