About Black Hole Fishing

Black Hole Fishing is an incremental game about catching absurd numbers of fish using a black hole. Suck fish straight out of the pond, automate restocking and perform questionable fish science. Upgrade it all. Repeat.

Build the World's Most Ridiculous Fish PondStart with a humble pond. Catch exotic fish, stock your waters, and then remove those fancy fish from reality using a hungry singularity. Feed the black hole to make it stronger. Bigger the hole, better the fishing.

Do Extremely Normal Fish ScienceWhy wait for evolution when you can speedrun it. Inject traits directly into your fish. Paint them. Compare your fish. Choose the winners. Cross-breed them and see what happens. Launch your favorites out of a cannon for profit and bonuses. This is all for fun and definitely not concerning!

Unlock powerful tools like the Large Halibut Collider™, combine fish at alarming speeds, discover all six Quantum Sharks, and push your understanding of mysterious singularities far beyond what anyone asked for.

Important Features:
  • Throw rocks to scare fish into the black hole
  • Stock the pond with fish
  • Upgrade your stockers (and everything else)
  • Catch fish in the wild
  • Compare your fish to only use the best
  • Research your fish for science
  • Paint and Inject your fish to Maximize their profitability
  • Cross-breed your best fish in the hatchery to Discover new traits and Optimize your profits
  • Fire your favorite fish out of a cannon to trigger bonus effects
  • Operate a particle collider for science!

As your operation grows, you will start to uncover the true mystery of the Fishy Business, and its equally fishy clientele. The upgrades keep coming, the payouts get bigger, and the whole thing starts to feel bigger than just fishing.

Where are these fish going? Who is paying you? Don't overthink it, let's just catch some fish!

✦ AI summary

Players appreciate the game's creative, relaxing gameplay and fun mechanics, but criticize its slow progression, unclear instructions, and lack of engaging endgame content. Some players have also experienced frustrating technical issues like save data loss, and note that the different biomes feel unnecessary since the default area is sufficient to complete the game.

Very fun but a little to grindy if you want something a bit faster

I can almost recommend this game, but not quite. It is much better than the many bad idle game clones you'll see here on Steam. There is some real humor, a bit of world-building, a few interesting mechanics, the whole fish thing is just handled nicely, and the animations are nice. But I just didn't have enough fun while playing this game to recommend it. It's a pretty short game - it can be completed in a few hours. A big problem is that mid-game, you end up in a state where you can buy almost all the prestige upgrades by doing many 30 second prestiges. This is super boring, but it's the fastest way to progress - that's not a great design. You will also need to upgrade and then breed the fish (in that order!), and this part of the game is tedious. This game is close to being a recommendation, but I can't recommend it. Go try Leaf Blower Revolution if you want a more thorough take on a game like this.

I usually write reviews more in depth, but I honestly do not have that much to say in the realm of positives that hasn't already been said in the recommended reviews. For me, this game's negatives way outweigh the positives. For starters, there is little to no tutorial. You're expected to figure everything out on your own, and half of the upgrade descriptions don't even explain how they work. You have to prestige way too many times, and the prestige tree isn't linear. Many of the major upgrades you need to progress at a reasonable pace are hidden throughout it, and you have to stumble along until you find them. My run ended up taking probably 30 or more hours because I didn't figure out there was one upgrade that could literally quintuple my gluons (the prestige currency) until I found it completely by accident. There are a lot of better fishing idlers that do what this game does, but better. Don't waste your time or money.
