Forget Werewolf The Apocalypse: Earth Blood, here is a hair-raising challenging beat-em up plat-former that will surely sink your tooth and claw into your skin. Bloody Paws Unleashed is an expanded remake of a really obscure old computer game of the same name that was developed by a Spanish developer, Mar Entertainment and released for the ZX Spectrum and MSX in 1990. The story goes about a werewolf who must rescue his wife, Samantha (who ironically is also a werewolf) from Frankenstein. However reaching his castle ain't gonna be easy as the desperate wolf must face his goons of zombies, invisible men, bats, jump roping mummies, sleeping super villains, skateboarding gnomes, vacuum cleaning witches, and rolling tennis balls (WTF!?). This beat-em up plat-former is a cross between Double Dragon and Castlevania with its simple yet fun beat-em up mechanics and challenging platforming. The game also reminds me of the obscure NES game, Werewolf the Last Warrior. The in game cut scenes are told in an almost comic book style story telling like the Sega Genesis game, Comix Zone. Really nicely done remake. The game feel is still 8-bit home computer side scroller, but the mechanics feel way better and there is much less jank and clunk. Nice challenging gameplay

A lot of fun, old school gaming done right!!

A much better game than the developer's first attempt. It remakes an obscure and pretty lame Spanish ZX Spectrum game (any videos I found have it completed in less than 10 minutes) whose only memorable element is the opening picture of a bird-flipping werewolf*. But it does what a good remake does: every detail of the original seems to have been carefully studied to update it for the better. It's not the cleanest pixel art around but it's a great update of the original graphics (some sprites seem to actually be the original ones edited), like an Amiga version that never was. A little detail I like is how Bloody folds his ears when crouching. The little story the game has is conveyed through pretty good comic-style illustrations in place of the scant text of the original. By the way, to my surprise even the plot has been kept the same, ending included! There's a reason all bosses except the final one are statues brought to life: they simply are statues originally, background elements that stand out more than others. That alone says a lot about how much the stages have been expanded. A lot of standing scenery objects (poles, trees) can even be knocked down onto enemies. About those…

Definitely a fun remake! It add so much that it's pretty much it's own beast, pun intended. This is a slow an methodic brawler, and works well as one. Everything in thos game scream of the nineties in a fun way, your moveset is limited but the levels and ennemies are designed accordlingly, and it remains satisfying to throw witches at each others or to slash away at mob and bosses! It's not a long game but do a good job from beginning to end. I recommend! Also, pretty much check out all that this developper did, commercial or otherwise, I've only seen winners in it all so far!
