✦ AI summary

An American Werewolf in L.A. is a short, budget beat-em-up with charming pixel art and a fun premise based on the classic film, but players widely criticize its stiff, unresponsive controls, unremappable buttons, and clunky combat mechanics that make gameplay feel tedious and unfun. The five-stage experience can be completed in around 30 minutes with little replay value, and while some appreciate the challenge and humor, most feel the asking price is too high for what amounts to a brief, mechanically frustrating experience.

TLDR: Outdated design leading to unfun gameplay I feel bad writing a bad review for An American Werewolf in L.A. as it is clearly a lower-budget passion project, but the game is just not worth your money, and here is why: The gameplay is the standout offender here, with an unremappable control scheme that is horrid and unintuitive, not only that with how stiff the controls are the game just feels bad to play. Each time you attack you are locked in place for long uncancelable attacks (god help you if you do the three-hit combo) each with a pitiful range, the enemies, usually just outside this range are then able to hit you with their attacks. On level two bullets that come from off-screen that you are meant to dodge, jump over, or block. However, the bullets are spaced out just far enough that if you dodge them you get hit by the next barrage of bullets, the jump is so low that you need to be a timing god to make it consistently, and blocking only reduces the damage not preventing it. There is a heal move that you do by doing nothing for a few seconds but it heals extremely slowly as to be useless and takes several seconds to activate, most of the time trying to use it will se…

Fun little beat 'em up game. I find it quite challenging, but I suppose that makes it more enjoyable (for real - when are you supposed to have time to regenerate?). Funny story too.

Easy and short brawler with a werewolf and his blonde girlfriend driving a red sports car. The gameplay is straightforward and similar to other beat'em-ups. The main difference is that you don't have much freedom. It all takes place on one plane, thus you can only move left and right. Because there are only five stages, the game will not take long to complete. They're also very small, as each stage is a single screen that moves left and right for a few steps. On the other side, the pixel art looks quite nice. It’s a bit shame some stages are boring and don’t allow for much detail. It starts great with a street and posters from famous movies. Then you move to Chicago, which suggested you will visit famous cities. This is not the case because the next two stages take place in a gas station in the middle of nowhere and boring rocks of the Grand Canyon. The character can punch, jump, block, and dash. Enemies aren't like sponges that absorb a lot of hits. A few swipes are enough to get rid of the majority of them. While opponents change in each stage, they only come in two variants: melee or ranged. While melee is fairly typical, ranged takes a more cautious approach. When they shoo…

Bro just wanted to surf. A fun little homage to An American Werewolf in London. The last two levels were somewhat challenging which made the experience more fun. After beating it in 30 minutes I don't see much replay value. I think it would be nice if they implemented a score system, otherwise, I don't see myself playing this game for a while. Maybe wait for a sale because $5 is a little much for this game.

Went in expecting a fun old school side scrolling werewolf beat em up. Got a awful old school 'semi' side scrolling werewolf unfinished Demo. Pass on this one. Even at 50% or more you'll be luck to get 5 minutes of actual enjoyment out of it due to the tedious game-play and rough control input.
