About Boons & Burdens
Boons & Burdens is a single player, action-roguelike, bullet heaven set in the depths of a hellish dimension. Battle hordes of demons through 12 levels of evil, collect magical gems to purchase powerful boons, and unlock your true potential as one of many wizards. But beware! The path to power requires sacrifice. Each level requires you to choose a new burden that transforms the difficulty. Become the paragon of ultimate power, or the architect of your own downfall, and watch it all unfold in richly detailed, over-the-top pixel art.

Menu styles not that great. biggest issue is settings where 25% increment volumes, cant lower past 25% so youd have to externally lower it more so its not blasting your ears.
As a fan of Gunlocked I had bought this right when it came out to support the dev, but then waited till it was out of EA. I then promptly forgot about the game entirely. It looked to be a dud given the lack of reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised when I finally installed it and gave it a go! To me its a very enjoyable survivors-like (but with alternate modes) in the art style and feel of the dev's other work. I'm hours into it and am still enjoying unlocking more stuff. I'm not sure why it wasn't well received, besides perhaps being hidden away in Steam and people not knowing about it. I'm leaving a review to up that count :) NOTE: it is playable but there are framerate issues on steamdeck which at this point look like they may not get fixed. I haven't experienced those issues on PC.
The game is cute and all but the play area is so small and you really dont get that much each time you play so you have to grind and grind is not wrong but when you have do it ALOT to get any benefits its a chore. Sorry not recommended. Last words: The game is a bit confusing at times as you dont understand the perks etc. Also the game dont support UltraWide screens so be prepared for black borders. :(
I'm officially a fan of From Lefcourt. While I haven't sunk a lot of time into Boons & Burdens yet, it already follows the same formula found in the developer's other games: Gunlocked, Gunlocked 2, Cosmic Raze. The depth of build options in these games is insane. There's a seemingly endless possibility of skill combinations to try out. I also really appreciate the difficulty level of Lefcourt's games. While it's fun to zone out to more simple roguelikes/roguelites (I mean, I love Megabonk, Vampire Survivors, Soulstone Survivors, etc., as much as anyone), Lefcourt makes you actively participate instead of just idly watching an overpowered character decimate a screenful of enemies (not that that can't happen here). While this review is posted under Boons & Burdens, it's a blanket testament to the quality of Lefcourt's games. I picked up Gunlocked a couple months back on a whim and it ended up being one of my favorite rogue-type games. I've sunk a lot of hours into that one, and I intend to sink a lot into this one, as well. Can't wait to see what comes after Gunlocked 2!
It has pretty interesting abilities and build options which I like.
