About Brain Marmelade

Overview :
Brain Marmelade is a 2D platformer/ adventure game with an hand-draw creepy art style and a unique combat system.
This game follows the "Dumped One" in his dangerous quest to find the GLORIOUS Brain Marmelade.

The platformer :
Move around the levels and... Dodge ! Jump ! Jump again and roll to avoid enemies’ traps and attacks !

The combat system :
Place yourself near your foes, focus the cursor on them, take a good look and follow the combo appearing above their head to chain attack them and make them disappear !

Creator note :
This is the first game i’ve made and posted online.
The creation phase ended in september 2018 but i couldn’t upload it to Steam until now.
I never thought that creating a game on my own and carrying the project to its end would require so much effort!
I Hope you’ll enjoy it !
Bye !

Brain Marmelade is a platformer. The controls are not rebindable, the resolution cannot be adjusted in-game. I was softlocked in the tutorial area within 5 minutes (rolling did not work).14 found this helpful
1 - Hold D, press S to roll. This gets past the part in the first level where you can get stuck. 2 - Go way left at the title screen if you want to exit the game without force closing it. 3 - Each enemy has left and right click on it and you press them in order to kill them. I almost gave up on this game but once I figured out these three things I then found myself a gem of a game that I took a chance on for 88% off $2.99 at just $0.35. I can now tell it's worth it and will update my review once I complete the game. Definitely recommend taking a chance on it at this sale price if you're into cheap dark artsy hand-drawn platformers designed for keyboard and mouse.11 found this helpful
I don't like the controls and they're partly buggy, but otherwise it's okay.2 found this helpful
Definitely try this game
A great 2d platformer game with interesting art, not-so-easy levels, easy controllers and it works perfectly on my administration-only potato. If you like 2d platformers you will like this. In the beginning, when you are supposed to roll under an object, you unfortunately can get stuck, but after a few tries it is passable. The game has the right amount of levels and doesn´t feel short for its prize. I have played for about 12 hours and still did not pass through the 4.3 level (a bit stuck in there honestly, try-again is a need in some levels,... but even after you die you still have around 2 hearts and are spawned to the latest checkpoint fortunately). Not to mention that some levels are a bit complicated to go through, yet I never felt bored playing it. It makes you engaged, count and think through the whole playthrough. It is not a puzzle game, but neither makes you feel like you are mindlessly going forward as many 2d platformers do. If you have spare time, a bit of patience and are thinking of getting this game, I recommend it. Cheap and interesting.1 found this helpful
This was a pleasant experience. Artstyle is absolutely amazing, that hit exactly the right spot for me, with usage of crows as safe points and the whole hanging off the ceiling aesthetic it's very much up my alley. The gameplay is simple but engaging enough to enjoy the 1-3 hours it takes. Most of the time spent depends on how long bosses take you, the first boss was rather clunky and easy to find a blind spot in his attack pattern, second boss felt kind of unfair and I doubt there is a way to beat it without dying. The final boss was actually a good fun, challenging, sometimes felt like the hotboxea are a little janky but nothing too bad. The combat system of clicking mouse buttons to kill enemies is unorthodox and works well in a game like this. Generally, a lovely experience for the low price of 3€.
It is difficult to like a game where the gimmick of the final boss is regenerating energy. That stuff is not fun at all. The game is short, about 2.0 hours long. The plot is non-existent. That roll tutorial part was the most difficult section of the game. The game only lets you through when it feels like it. RNGezus.
