This game has been out for almost TWO YEARS at the time I write this review, and only has ONE purchased review and just 4 key redemption reviews! W T F ? This game is a super cool, super fun little indie gem that is made with tons of heart and passion by the developer(s)!! It should be a crime that this game hasn't gotten more well deserved attention here on Steam! This game is very hardcore! I believe you get to about D level before moving onto the next level and start to use other abilities. I never made it that far...even so the game is really quite fun and interesting. It has excellent music to listen too which is not interrupted upon your numerous deaths, and as you progress you start to use new stuff to help you navigate the level. That said, once you die you start all over from the beginning. It is nice in that you can drop in and out of playing without any commitment to the story, it's very arcade like in that respect. If you're a fan of hardcore game play and have a lot of patience with yourself, this might be the game for you.

In this video I take a look at Brainmelter Deluxe and it's welcome reinvention of the platformer. Initially I was worried this would be one of those over done and painfully hard platformers where you need to jump over spikes and climb up walls by sticking to them. Instead it was a fantastic reinvention on the concept making it a lot more fun and accessible to the players with less smashing your keyboard and more skill and fun. Don't get me wrong though it was still very hard to get through levels but taking it slow and being careful can usually get you around trouble. Brainmelter Deluxe is a 2D retro pixel platformer with a fairly basic and uncommon (but not unique) twist, and that is when you press space, instead of jumping, you rotate the level you're on, which of course will make you fall in particular directions. Of course the puzzle levels are full of spikes and spinning blades, so turning the map at the right times is crucial to solving each puzzle level in the game. Problematically, the developer used a number of Unity assets when making the game, but they didn't credit the authors of those packages (DOTween, FMOD, InControl etc), which, while not necessarily a license violation, does put the developer in the somewhat unethical position of claiming the work of others as their own. This isn't okay. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
