Journey Through The Underworld


In Charon's Crossing, you play as the mythic ferryman, Charon. Your task is to safely ferry the souls of the departed through the treacherous rivers of the Underworld. As you maneuver through each of the five rivers—Lethe, Acheron, Cocytus, Phlegethon, and Styx—you'll confront a variety of obstacles and menacing foes that aim to obstruct your path.

With each completed stage, Hermes offers you a brief respite. Visit his shop to purchase vital power-ups that can make your journey smoother. "Charon's Crossing" is an unusual entry in Steam (but not a good one). It's basically a ripoff of the ancient 1980's LCD "Game and Watch" kids toys, a small liquid crystal display game that runs on watch batteries and features ultra simple score attack gameplay. This one carries an "underworld" theme where you ferry the dead people to their destinations. They died because they are really old because they remember "Game and Watch" games. What do you do in the game? You basically move a boat around a grid while looking at the really lazy retro "art". It's incredibly shallow. It's not 1983 anymore. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. The graphics here are particularly awful, so bad that it actually stands out as one of the worst looking games on Steam. Quite an accomplishment.
