About Chaste Tris

Chaste Tris is my first complete video game I have made. It is based on Tetris but there is no gravity. Blocks can be freely moved up, down, left, and right with the arrow keys. They can be rotated with X or Y keys and can also be held for later use with C. The space bar or H key can also be used to hard drop the blocks! But my game also allows for a new feature that none of the other games have. It is possible to save the state of the game by pressing the I key and reload it with the L key to go back and correct mistakes. This makes it the perfect tool to test out playing styles which would be perfectly valid on other puzzle block style games but would be very difficult. Consider this game as a relaxing practice tool to test the limits of what you can think of when you have all the time in the world to get it right! This game is not meant to compete with the officially licensed Tetris games. However, I think it adds the feeling of the 1980s and 1990s. It is meant to run on even the oldest and slowest of computers. It is fully Open-Source and was developed on Linux. However, this Steam port is the Windows port which I have confirmed also works on Debian Linux using Proton Emulation. For more information on how you can use the source code and modify it to your own needs, you can visit the GitHub pagehttps://github.com/chastitywhiterose/chastetris

Man, I love Tetris. This idea is fresh and new which people never see with Tetris, i like the calm relaxing zen feel after I turn off the music, but it need a lot of work, first i would suggest adding a key bind for sending the blocks down to the bottom immediately instead of having to spam the "s" and down arrows. their was an unnecessary star on the side of the screen that was spinning and was very distracting. also if you could show the keybinds on the side since it was very hard to figure out all the controls. Over all it wasn't a bad experience. 5/10

Needs the ability to turn off the music, and to be able to hold down the arrows rather than spam them. Otherwise it is what it says on the tin

"Chaste Tris" is an unabashed ripoff of Tetris (copyright The Tetris Company 1984) and, like other Tetris clones, may suffer the same fate as the court outcome in The Tetris Company LLC vs Xio (District NJ, 2012) where the copyright owner legally upheld their copyright over this game... which the developer here deliberately infringed in an attempt to profit from the intellectual property of another business. This is absolutely not okay. It's also worse than Tetris in every respect. This features really godawful, lazy pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging money for this in an attempt to cash in on deliberately breaching copyright law. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. I…

I got interested in finding a low-stress, no gimmicks version of Tetris after reading an abstract of a study that claimed playing Tetris immediately after a stressful event can help prevent people from developing PTSD. No doubt more research is needed, and I'm not a researcher, but your work here in building a lightweight version of the game that can run on minimal hardware might have more impact down the line than you ever planned. Took me a few minutes to get used to the controls but they work great. Personally, I would enjoy having some feedback with a sound effect / animation when a row clears. I'd also enjoy having a "shadow grid" of maybe dark gray lines on the black background, it would make it easier to tell when I've got my block lined up correctly for the hard drop.
