Chess Cubed

IS IT WORTH THE COST? Where to begin? I have been interested in the concept behind this game for some time and boy did it not disappoint! While the $10 price tag may seem like it is a bit much for a game like this I promise it is worth it (assuming you have another friend that will also pick it up to play with you). If you are one of those kids that plays chess every day there is no question you should have this game. If you are not and you don't have a friend to play with I would hold off for at least a sale to $5 because $5 would be a very reasonable price for this. VARYING GAMEPLAY Through playing, I have discovered there is way more to the game than I had thought there would be. There are elements that can change the way the game plays such as any pieces on a white tile will only move in horse patterns or you can not move on red tiles. There is an energy system you can use utilize to push your pawn form starting position to get a queen in one turn should you have 4 energy (and you gain 2 energy a turn). Okay, I play chess and I am considered a strong tournament player. This game is not chess, it is pieces smashing into each other I think. I don't understand the positive reviews -- there isn't anyone around to play, no instructions on what exactly is going on, endless turns or something, and no AI. If the developer put instructions out there for what it all means, and if people played it, then perhaps it might be okay. That said, the one time I got lucky & I did manage to play it with someone, it just bugged me and did not remind me at all of chess. I will go back to playing real chess and hope that someday this hot mess of a game gets fixed.

Chess Cubed is one of the most unique games of this year I have played so far. Default Software brings an interesting twist on the classic game of chess by combining it with the dimension and rotation of an 8 by 8 Rubiks Cube. Although the mass amounts of potential and complexity this game has to offer might deter an average (epic) gamer, the rulesets and variety make this an enthralling experience without becoming an endless nightmare. In short, I would highly recommend this game to any puzzle fan. I bought this game for myself and my friend who was initally skeptical about the absurdity of playing on six different planes. We are avid chess fans and his concern was that, by essentially adding five more boards to an already complex and time consuming game, the experience would become bogged down and uninteresting. However, upon playing for the first hour, we ended up recognizing the true potential of this game. The rules of the game remain the same as chess in many ways, but differ in a handful of ways, especially when certain gamemaodes are activated. Short Version: It's Chess on a Rubix Cube, whats not to love about that concept? Long version: Pros: A game can be done in around 10ish Minutes quick to learn (hard to master) Has you thinking outside the box (Or cube in this case) Cons: Looks need to be improved Audio is ok No singleplayer Some moves your oppenents make can feel cheap sometimes. Little indication as to when it's your turn The more vauable pieces costs too much energy to be able to move. Despite its setbacks, i'd still recommend it for a casual play with friends.

The devs essentially abandoned the game after release. No AI, nobody to play with, and the game mechanics are a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess. This game had a lot of potential, but it seems to have been squandered by a dev team who quickly moved on to other things after a quick cash grab.

Awesome game! If you're a true chess fan you will enjoy this game! There is no learning curve unless you don't know how to play chess but being the fact that you are playing on a Rubik's cube, as you can imagine this game can be quite complicated in a good way. It allows you to really strategize and think outside of the box. The number of moves at your disposal are almost endless or would take quite a while to calculate and I'm not up for the task lol. I've been following the development of this game for quite some time and it has revolutionized and modernized the game of chess. This game is even better when you have a close friend or family member to play with you. looks needs to be smoothed out but besides that I love it! I rate it 7/10
