Chico's Rebound

This is a charming game. It ended up being much more than I anticipated going in. The story is fully fleshed out and engaging, and I really enjoyed the puzzles and secrets hidden around the tower. I was drawn in by the art style and expected more of a modern / retro take on classic brick breakers like Arkanoid, but it's something far more atmospheric and memorable. I haven't finished it yet, but I already know I'll be jumping back in as soon as I can. It's the kind of game that's best experienced for yourself. Give it a try and get immersed in its world.

An absolutely charming little adventure! The moment I started playing I knew this one was going to be something special, and I was not wrong. It has a very Gameboy Color vibe to it, with some fun twists on classic brickbreaking gameplay that make it feel more like volleyball. As a fan of chipmunks in the first place (I have one who lives under my back porch and he is more than welcome to stay), the characters and story are right up my alley. Unlike most games in this genre, you catch the ball by default unless you smack it back with your tail, building up your combo for big points. This is a REALLY nice change of pace and it's executed excellently. Aesthetically, like I said, it's very Gameboy Color in both art and sound, but also doesn't feel beholden to limitations like color palettes, which is fine. It is current year, after all. It all works great together though and I'd say it's very much worthy of it's BostonFIG Visual Art award! It looks like there's a lot to enjoy here and I'm excited to keep going.

"Chipmunk Block Break" Chico’s Rebound takes the classic block-breaking formula and does the classic block-breaking formula. The boss encounters were a nice surprise, and the game does a good job gradually introducing new mechanics without overwhelming the player. There were moments where progression felt unclear, including what seemed like a possible glitch, but the overall presentation and gameplay loop stayed enjoyable throughout. Quite the fun game! It has its flaws, namely some notable difficulty spikes when going for 100% completion [spoiler] I'm looking squarely at you here, Special 5-3 [/spoiler]. However, it has more than enough charm to make up for it if you ask me! In the end, I'd say the game is worth buying

Edit : I've 100%'d it. The game is a lot of fun. There's a tower with 2 stages (5 boards each) per floor, and you play a sort of action-arkanoid game on each one. You have a ball, you pick an angle to launch it, and break the bricks on the board. You time a melee attack on the ball to send it back up, if it gets past you 3 times you have to retry the board. Each board has 2 coins you earn, one by beating it, and one by hitting the par score. I'd recommend going for the par score on every board as you go, because the default clears are a bit easy, and you actually need many of the bonus coins to progress through the game. There's a hub tower, and you are allowed to access later stages by having enough coins. The tower is sort of a gruntilda's-castle sort of thing, and the multiple-floor-spanning puzzles in there (some required, some optional) are pretty fun, but never terribly difficult. Art wise, it has a faux NES thing going on, as the music seems to stick to the NES limitations for the most part. Said music is the weakest part of the experience by far, (especially the first floor unfortunately), but the songs do get more fun as you progress. I failed to mention there are many…
