About Commutator

COMMUTATOR is an instrument-only horror game set in a dystopian future where human perception is replaced by sensors and code. You are an operator sitting behind a terminal, guiding a remote unit through the darkness.FEATURES:
  • Blind Navigation: You cannot see the world directly. Rely solely on your radar, compass, and distance sensors to navigate the labyrinth.
  • Maintenance Protocols: Perform routine tasks such as cleaning apartments and repairing data nodes. Follow the text-based interface to interact with the environment.
  • The Unknown: Interpret strange signal readings and corrupted logs. Just because you can't see the threat, doesn't mean it isn't watching you.
  • Analog Aesthetics: Immerse yourself in a claustrophobic atmosphere of green phosphor monitors, ASCII art, and humming servers.

Well. I'm speechless. I don't even know where to start. I've just finished the game. And... I'm empty? I think this is the feeling after the first run. It seems like you really miss everything that happened at the arctic base. I don't even know where to start. Let me breathe a little. So. Hmm. What can I say without giving away a plot twist? I can only say that right at the first launch, the "program" already gave you an answer. But I forgot it. And only now, after the ending, do I understand it. This is the second game from this author, and my second review. His writing still amazes me. It's like you're reading an interactive book, rather than the usual dialogue about "go there, bring this." He stepped forward — if the first game was text with music and images, now it's a fully playable game. But I never thought a game without any models, landscapes, or music could shock me this much. Honestly. If you let the game move you through it — you'll experience a unique catharsis. I want to do a second run a little later, to put all the pieces together. P.S. Man, I hope you win a UI award in 2026, because what the helllllllllll. Whether people get it or not, you're litera…

I went into Commutator expecting an interesting experimental horror game, but I didn’t expect the interface itself to become the most unsettling part of it. There are no conventional environments to walk through, no soundtrack telling you when to feel nervous, and almost nothing that a normal game would use to create atmosphere. Instead, you have to understand the Arctic station through a terminal, slowly building a map of the place in your head and figuring out what exactly happened there. At first it feels confusing, but once the logic starts to click, pressing a button or opening a door can feel more tense than walking through a dark corridor in a regular horror game. The writing is genuinely good and reveals just enough to keep you curious without explaining everything immediately. I also liked that the game lets you experiment with the station instead of simply moving from one dialogue box to another. It is definitely not a game for everyone. You need patience, and getting lost is clearly part of the experience. But if you enjoy unusual narrative games, mysteries and horror that relies on your imagination rather than jumpscares, Commutator is absolutely worth playing. A ver…

The game is incredibly hard. My head is spinning — this is so tough. It's the first horror game I've seen with a setup like this, where there's no music and no visuals. I still couldn't figure out whether it was all happening in a 3D space or not. There's definitely a story, and it's well written, but I can't finish the game in one sitting. After about twenty or thirty minutes of trying to build a mental map, my head starts to boil. So I'm leaving a positive review up front, and if I make it to the end, I'll post an update.
